PRESS RELEASE:

Mansfield Township Fire Company No. 1 is proud to announce that we have been awarded $197,321 through FEMA’s Fiscal Year 2025 Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) Program.

This funding will be used to replace our department’s aging Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA), some of which has been in service for more than 25 years. The project will provide our firefighters with new SCBA units and face pieces.

Replacing an entire SCBA system represents a significant investment for a 100% volunteer fire company. Securing $197,321 in federal funding allows us to make this critical safety upgrade while substantially reducing the amount of local funding that would otherwise be required, providing meaningful financial relief to Mansfield Township taxpayers.

Our firefighters depend on SCBAs every time they enter a structure fire or other hazardous environment. Replacing equipment that has protected our members for more than two decades will provide modern, reliable respiratory protection and help ensure our firefighters have the equipment they need when answering the call.

This award represents a major investment in firefighter safety, community protection, and responsible use of taxpayer dollars.

We are incredibly grateful for this opportunity and for the continued support of the Mansfield Township community. After more than 25 years of service from our current equipment, we are excited to take this major step forward in protecting the firefighters who protect our community.

Understanding the LOSAP Question on This November’s Ballot

This November, Mansfield Township residents will see a public question regarding the establishment of a Length of Service Award Program (LOSAP) for our volunteer emergency service organizations.

What is LOSAP?
LOSAP is a program authorized by New Jersey law designed to support the recruitment and retention of volunteer firefighters and first aid members by recognizing their continued service to the community.

The proposed Mansfield Township program would include eligible volunteers from:

• Mansfield Township Fire Company No. 1
• Tri-County Volunteer Fire Company

Under the proposed program, an eligible volunteer could receive an annual contribution of up to $1,250 into a tax-deferred LOSAP account.

This is not an automatic payment simply for being a member. Volunteers must remain active and meet established annual participation requirements. These requirements are based on a point system that recognizes qualifying service such as emergency responses, training, drills, meetings, and other approved activities.

LOSAP is intended to provide an additional incentive for residents to volunteer while recognizing and encouraging the continued service of existing members. This initiative has a very low impact to the municipal property taxes.

We encourage Mansfield Township residents to vote YES on the ballot. If you have any questions on the program, please email [email protected].

As the sun sets on September 11, 2026, we pause to remember a day that, even 25 years later, remains forever etched in our hearts.

Twenty-five years ago, 2,977 innocent lives were lost in the attacks of September 11, 2001, including 343 members of the FDNY who answered their final call.

Tonight, the members of Mansfield Township Fire Company No. 1 remember every life lost, every family forever changed, and every first responder who ran toward danger when others were trying to escape.

We remember those who responded to Ground Zero in the days and months that followed, and those who have since lost their lives from illnesses connected to their service.
For the fire service, the legacy of September 11 lives on in every station, every apparatus, and every firefighter who answers the call. It reminds us of the courage, sacrifice, and selflessness shown on one of our nation's darkest days.

As another September 11 comes to a close, we remember those who never came home and those who carried the weight of that day with them for the rest of their lives.

We will never forget.

🚒 Meet the first winner of the Ricochet National Non-PFAS Gear Giveaway: Mansfield Township Fire Company No.1 🏅

Located in Port Murray, NJ, Mansfield Township Fire Company #1 is an all-volunteer department whose members give their time to protect their neighbors and community—leaving behind families, workplaces, and personal commitments when the call comes in.

Now, we're proud to support the people behind that commitment.

Mansfield Township Fire Company #1 is one of six departments nationwide receiving five sets of Ricochet non-PFAS structural turnout gear.

Assistant Chief Ryan Clancy shared what new gear would mean for his department. These five sets represent more than gear. They represent an investment in the people who answer the call—and the protection they count on when it matters most.

To the entire Mansfield Township crew: thank you for what you do for your community. We're proud to put Ricochet gear behind you. 🚒👏

🔥 One winner announced. Five more to come.
