On October 2, POPD Sgt. Main contacted a community member whom she has known throughout her entire career as a police officer. This person has been through several recent, high-stress situations, which have compromised her to the point of experiencing panic attacks and thoughts of hopelessness. While trying to provide assistance for her mental health, I learned that her 15-year-old dog was in bad health and was deteriorating quickly. He had lost the ability to walk, lost an excessive amount of weight, and had become incontinent. This community member was not in a position to afford a much-needed humane euthanasia, and prolonging the current situation would mean that her pet would continue to suffer. Recognizing the highly emotional and difficult situation, Sgt. Main offered to help the community member by providing a ride to the animal clinic and facilitating payment for the medical procedure. The owner was very grateful for the assistance and knew it was the right thing to do for her dog.

Helping our community is possible because of generous donations from the public. If you would like to donate please see our BlueBridge website at https://bluebridgealliance.org/portorchardwapd/

Today marks 25 years since the tragic events of September 11, 2001—an anniversary that continues to weigh heavily on the hearts of every American. We pause to honor the 2,977 lives lost, and we remember the extraordinary courage shown by the first responders who ran toward danger without hesitation.

Firefighters, police officers, paramedics, and countless others made ultimate sacrifices that will never be forgotten. Their bravery, resilience, and dedication continue to inspire our service and remind us of the strength found in community and unity.

As we reflect on this day, we stand with the families who lost loved ones, with survivors who still carry the weight of that morning, and with all first responders who uphold the same commitment to protecting others.

We remember.
We honor.
We will never forget.
