For more than a century, recruitment posters have inspired generations to answer the call to serve. Here are a couple of our favorite examples from history!
What recruitment posters do you remember seeing when you first decided to enlist?

New Artifact Highlight: North Vietnamese Army Helmet

This North Vietnamese Army helmet features various inscriptions and etchings that offer a glimpse into its history. The helmet was captured by Navy Corpsman PO2 Herbert E. MacMurphy during his service between June 1969 and June 1970. Artifacts like this help preserve the history of the Vietnam War and the experiences of the servicemembers who served during this era.

Visit the Parris Island Museum to explore more artifacts and discover the stories behind our nation’s military history.

Marine Monday: Benjamin Colin
Benjamin Colin recently visited the Parris Island Museum with his uncle, both Parris Island graduates. Colin graduated in 2005, while his uncle graduated in 1969.
While exploring the Museum’s Modern Marine Wing, Colin spotted a familiar image on one of the exhibit panels. Among the faces of the Marines he had served alongside, he recognized himself in the background!
Moments like these highlight the importance of the Parris Island Museum’s mission to preserve the history and legacy of every Marine who has walked across the iconic yellow footprints.
Thank you, Benjamin, for your service and for visiting the Parris Island Museum!
OORAH!

Famous Marines Spotlight: The Everly Brothers

Don and Phil Everly rose to fame with hit songs such as “All I Have to Do Is Dream” and “Wake Up Little Susie.” In 1961, the brothers stepped away from the spotlight to enlist in the United States Marine Corps Reserve. Even while serving, they continued to perform, appearing on The Ed Sullivan Show in their Dress Blue uniforms during weekend liberty.

What's your favorite Everly Brothers song?
