Sweet story.

“I remember she was the prettiest girl sitting at the top of the bleachers...” Carmon Pigg, who is living with dementia, recalled about the day he met his wife. Some days, Carmon Pigg’s memory is as clear as it was over 64 years ago. But other days, it’s not. “One day I may be okay, next d...

Hey, Rhode Islanders, ever wished you could save a life? Here's how quick, easy and special it can be. One more signature; countless lives to benefit. Join this mom's petition to "Bring Project Lifesaver to Rhode Island." In her own words, "My son Jaylen is a bright and cheerful child who lights up every room. However, he lives with lymphatic malformation and level 3 nonverbal autism, conditions that contribute to his propensity for wandering and elopement ..."

AFA's Project Lifesaver Fall 2026 Grant Cycle Open Now
Application deadline: November 13

Important reminder to Project Lifesaver member agencies:
The Alzheimer's Foundation of America's Fall 2026 Project Lifesaver Grant cycle is now open. Member agencies, apply before 5 p.m. Eastern time Nov. 13. Get full details and application here: www.alzfdn.org/pligrant

AFA's annual Light the World in Teal campaign
The Alzheimer's Foundation of America works hard to support us and our mutual cause to protect and assist individuals with Alzheimer's disease and the people who care for them. While they're top of mind during this grant season, you can easily help support them in return by participating in their 2026 Light the World in Teal initiative. It's free and easy, and it helps the AFA raise awareness of and support for all they do for so many.

Simply plan now to light your corner of the building, property or world with teal-colored bulbs November 2. Take photos that day and/or night and post them to social media with a note about what you're doing and why (good content that promotes the AFA, the cause and you!). Details and inspiration here: https://lighttheworldinteal.com And please consider emailing Sandy Silverstein in advance to confirm your participation at [email protected]
That'll help him stay attuned. :)

MISSING VULNERABLE PERSON RESCUED (This case serves as a reminder that it's getting cold in many parts of the country and that not every missing person with a cognitive condition will be receptive to being found. Speed, training and technology matter.):
March 13, 2026, Galway, New York — A 15-year-old male with comorbid developmental delays and mental-health conditions was reported missing on a day when the high temperature reached only 39 degrees F. Trained and equipped Electronic Search Specialists from the Saratoga County Sheriff's Office’s Project Lifesaver search-and-rescue program tracked their client’s radio-frequency transmitter to where they located him in the woods despite his active ongoing attempt to evade rescuers. The team’s use of Project Lifesaver technology made it impossible for the missing boy to avoid being found, and their training made it possible for them to successfully and compassionately navigate the challenges unique to this missing-person scenario. The teen, recovered in good condition, was returned home, and the mission cleared without further community or first-responder engagement, having saved precious time, resources and, most importantly, life.

💙 Together, we can make a difference and help bring loved ones home!

The new program, Project Lifesaver, uses small, wearable transmitters that emit unique radio signals, allowing law enforcement to track enrolled individuals who wander away from home.

Sheriff Duane Lewis said the program has been in the works for eight or nine months, but the death of Saylor Hayes, a 5-year-old autistic, nonverbal child who died in the water on Pawleys Island last month, helped spur the effort forward.
