Portage Township Food Pantry This is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization operated by volunteers who provide food assistance to qualifying people in need four days a month. We are open 10 a.m.

The Portage Township Food Pantry is a non-profit organization, supported by area churches, businesses, community members, and organizations, operated by a group of volunteers who provide food assistance to qualifying families in need. This assistance of charitable donations to needy people shall exclusively qualify it for the purpose set forth under section 501(c)3 of the Internal Revenue Code. The Portage Township Food Pantry provides food assistance to Portage Township residents every month. to 12 p.m. on the first, second, and fourth Thursdays of the month. The third Thursday we are open in the afternoon from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. When a month has five Thursdays then we are normally closed on that fifth Thursday unless specifically stated otherwise. We utilize volunteers to purchase and pick up commodities at the region's food bank and local retailers, to organize and stock shelves, to work community events, to collect food donations, and to operate the food pantry. Financial donations are the backbone of the food pantry. With your monetary donation, the food pantry can stretch each dollar further by purchasing in bulk or large quantities, allowing for more purchases and providing more for the clients. The Portage Township Food Pantry members are careful and trustworthy stewards of your monetary donations. With little overhead costs, over 90% of monetary donations received are used to purchase food which is given right back out into the Portage Township community. Besides direct financial contributions, several local community groups and businesses host fundraising events on behalf of the food pantry, donating the events proceeds to the food pantry. The Portage Township Food Pantry will be open tomorrow, Thursday, October 15, from 4:00–6:00 PM!

All Portage Township residents are welcome to apply for a yearlong food pantry voucher through the Portage Township - Brendan Clancy, Trustee Office if they do not already have one on file.

The Portage Township Food Pantry helps hundreds of families and individuals to put essential food on their tables.
The next Portage Township Food Pantry distribution will be held from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 15 at the pantry, 3590 Willowcreek Road (adjacent to the North Porter County Government Center south of U.S. 6).
In addition to food, the pantry will also be distributing baby diapers, baby wipes and sanitary napkins. This is made possible through a partnership with the Portage Township Trustee office and the Porter County Health Department.
Those in need of assistance must contact the Portage Township Trustee’s office at 219-762-1623 to apply for a referral to the food pantry. There are documents required to verify residency and income.

We’ve created a Food Pantry Wish List with some of the items we are currently in need of. Every donation, big or small, makes a difference for our neighbors right here in Portage Township.

The next Portage Township Food Pantry distribution will be held tomorrow, Thursday, September 3, from 10:00 AM–12:00 PM.

A voucher from the Portage Township Trustee’s Office is required to attend the distribution. If you do not already have a current referral on file, please stop by the Portage Township - Brendan Clancy, Trustee Office before the distribution to complete the referral process.
