Twelve girls walked off a track in Washington State last week. Not as a mob. Not as a protest march. One by one, they stepped to the side and refused to compete.
The story spread because of how quiet it was. No vandalism, no confrontation, no shouting. They declined to participate in a race they believed was unfair, and walked away.
The athlete they declined to race against is a biological male who identifies as a transgender girl and competes in the female category under state rules adopted two years ago. The walkout was the athletes saying, without words, that the policy does not produce fair competition.
What the mainstream coverage missed: fairness in athletics is not complicated. Sports categories exist because biology affects performance. The female category was created to give girls a genuine opportunity to compete and win. When that category becomes functionally open, it stops doing what it was designed to do.
The cultural narrative says what they did was wrong. The biblical one is more direct: male and female are not social constructs that change with policy. They are descriptions of something real. What was made differently was made differently on purpose, and that purpose does not disappear because a category label is redefined.
The girls who walked off that track understood something that requires no advanced theology. Treating something true as optional does not make the truth optional.
What do you think schools should actually do when female athletes push back like this? 🇺🇸
