2026/10/29 Storm LUCY 8/11 Recovery Limb Removal Update

The majority of what is left being debris that's still in backyards and side yards that hasn't been brought to the easement near the road yet. We determined the rest of this process should be complete by the middle of November as long as everyone with tree debris moves it to the easement between this morning and November 1st. November 2nd will be our final pass through the city.

We urge you to please bring the tree debris over to the easement area as soon as you can. The sooner everyone does, the more efficient pickup conditions will be for the contractor.

Portage was one of the cities that was hit hardest by the derecho, but our recovery has been steady, and I'm so proud of how we've moved forward as a city on it. Let's all get this mission finally finished up together.

PLEASE EMAIL US AT [email protected] if you have limbs to be picked-up.

2026/10/12 Storm LUCY 8/11 Recovery Limb Removal Update

Message from our Mayor…

I just finished up a meeting this morning with the company that has been handling all of our tree debris pickup after the derecho. At this point, it's estimated that 90% of the tree debris has now been picked up, with the majority of what is left being debris that's still in backyards and side yards that hasn't been brought to the easement near the road yet. After discussion this morning, we determined the rest of this process should be complete by the middle of November as long as everyone with tree debris moves it to the easement between this morning and November 1st.

Last week, I asked everyone to please bring that debris over to the easement by the end of this week if you're able to do so. I still ask you to do that if possible, but if you need more time to get it moved over, you do have until November 1st. But I urge you to please bring it over as soon as you can. The sooner everyone does, the more efficient pickup conditions will be for them.

2026/10/11 Storm LUCY 8/11 Recovery Limb Removal Update

IMPORTANT NOTE: If you still have wood material on the back side of your property, ideally, we need this material at the curb by November 1st or as soon as possible. This includes all the stumps you desire to get rid of. Please DO NOT DELAY!

PLEASE EMAIL US AT [email protected] if you have limbs to be picked-up.

Question: I have a tree stump still in the ground, will the contractor take it? YES! It is the property owner’s responsibility to remove the stump from the ground and place it at the easement. Once this is completed the contractor will retrieve it in the time they are contracted with the city. Stumps in the ground at the easement will have to be removed in the same way. Or you can grind the stump which may be a more cost-effective process.
