I just called Laura Rowan and Diane Sykes to congratulate them. They are experienced and thoughtful attorneys, and Multnomah County will be well served by whoever joins the bench in January.
I am grateful to live in a state where every vote is counted carefully and our elections are conducted with integrity. Tonight's outcome is democracy working as it should.
Tonight didn't go the way we hoped. But I want to be clear: I have no regrets. I got into this race because I believe courts matter: to the families who walk through those doors, to the community that depends on fair outcomes, and to the rule of law that holds everything together. That belief hasn't changed.
We ran a grassroots campaign built on who I actually am and what I actually believe: that the same fair and impartial system should work for everyone. The support we earned along the way β from unions, from colleagues, from community members across Multnomah County β means more to me than I can express.
To everyone who showed up for this campaign: thank you. You held house parties, donated, put up yard signs, and sent encouragement when we needed it most. Your belief in what we were trying to do is something I will carry for the rest of my career. I also want to thank our entire campaign team, and my family, who know what they gave and what it meant.
The work of building a more just Multnomah County doesn't end tonight. It never does. I'll see you in the courtroom.
