IRCO is deeply saddened by the passing of Phillip Sokhom Tauch (May 14, 1952 – September 25, 2026), known to many as “Mr. Sokhom.” A beloved former Executive Director and one of IRCO’s foundational leaders, his dedication and vision helped shape our organization and strengthen the communities we serve.
A refugee, community builder, mentor, and steadfast advocate for immigrants and refugees, Mr. Sokhom was part of IRCO from its earliest days and served as Executive Director for 19 years, from 1996 to 2015.
During his tenure, IRCO grew significantly, expanding programs and services for youth, seniors, families, survivors of domestic violence, new citizens, and many others. His leadership also helped establish lasting community spaces, including IRCO’s main office on NE Glisan Street and the Sokhom Tauch Community Center, which proudly bears his name.
Mr. Sokhom believed deeply in the strength and potential of immigrant and refugee communities. His vision, perseverance, and commitment to creating opportunities helped lay the foundation for the IRCO we know today.
As we honor his life and respect his family’s request for privacy, we remember Mr. Sokhom not only for his remarkable contributions, but also for the journey that brought him here and the doors he helped open for generations to come.
He will be deeply missed, and his legacy will continue to inspire our work and the communities we serve.
