Today marks 25 years since the tragic events that took place on September 11, 2001. We pause to honor the lives tragically lost, the families forever changed, and the heroes who answered the call and made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. We will never forget ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ

Precipitation can be both helpful and challenging for firefighters working in recently burned areas, especially when paired with high winds. On the Mt. Hood National Forest yesterday, crews had to pull back from the fire line as high winds created hazardous conditions, increasing the likelihood of fireโ€‘weakened trees falling in the area where they were working.

๐Ÿ”ฅAfter 44 days at Preparedness Level (PL) 5, the Northwest has decreased to PL4, but fire season is far from over.

๐ŸŒงRain and cooler temperatures expected midweek will give firefighters some relief. You can help by continuing to take steps to prevent wildfires.

โœ…Know Before You Go: Check for fire closures and restrictions before you head out.

๐ŸŒฒRecreating in a recently burned area? Stay alert for weakened trees, unstable ground, loose debris, and flash-flood risks.

A low pressure weather system could bring dry lightning to the central Washington Cascades.

Very dry fuels with lightning increase the risk of fire potential. Resources are prepositioned across the region for anticipated initial attack.

You play a critical role in preventing wildfires, which threaten lives, property, and the natural resources we all depend on.

A new Pacific Northwest๐Ÿšฉ Fuels and Fire Behavior Advisory๐Ÿšฉ has been issued by NWCC Predictive Services in conjunction with state and federal partners effective August 25, 2026.

Subject: Ongoing drought has kept live and dead fuels critically dry across the Northwest, supporting aggressive fire behavior even without strong alignment of fuels, weather, or topography. Increased fire activity has been observed across most of the region.

Summary:
โ€ข Low snowpack across Oregon and Washington has intensified ongoing drought, leaving fuels critically dry.
โ€ข Live fuels are completely or mostly cured and significantly contributing to increased fire behavior.
โ€ข Active fire behavior with extended burn periods is occurring, with continuous rangeland fuels supporting rapid spread when aligned with winds.
โ€ข Fires are exhibiting extreme resistance to control and extinguishment, requiring substantial ground and aerial resource commitments for long duration.

The Hagen Fire is burning in the Umatilla National Forest about 26 miles east of Pendleton, Oregon. The fire began on July 16, 2026, following a lightning storm that moved through the area.

Firefighters have been building a shaded fuel break along Forest Service Road 31 on the Hagen Fire to help protect nearby communities and give firefighters a safer place to work. Dense grass and brush can help a wildfire spread quickly. By removing some of that vegetation and keeping larger trees in place, crews can slow fire spread, reduce fire intensity and improve access for firefighters and residents during emergency operations.

Currently, there are more than 1000 fire professionals assigned to the incident. To learn more about fire suppression efforts, please visit: https://inciweb.wildfire.gov/incident-information/orumf-hagen-fire
