Join us Tuesday, Oct. 29, for an evening of stories, laughter, and remembrance as we celebrate the life of Adonay Solleiro, a beloved member of our community who passed away on July 17 while hiking at Angel's Rest.

Adonay's love of the mountains touched so many of us, and since we haven't yet had the chance to gather as a community, this evening is our opportunity to do that together. Come share a memory, hear stories from friends and climbing partners, and celebrate the legacy he leaves behind.

The night will also include a special gear swap featuring pieces from Adonay's mountaineering and outdoor collection. Attendees are invited to take an item home, a way to carry a bit of Adonay with you on your next adventure.

All are welcome, whether you knew Adonay well or simply crossed paths on the trail.

September flooding meant our Grand Canyon outing needed a pivot. The planned rim-to-rim-to-rim route became two long day hikes from rim toward river and along the Tonto Trail. This determined group embraced the trail change and made it an adventure to remember.

The route was modified, but the fun — and the company — delivered. Thanks to everyone who brought their flexibility, grit and good humor!

Big winter plans? Start with snow smarts.

The Mazamas and Wylark Mountaineering are teaming up to offer two new AIARE 1 avalanche education courses: Snowshoeing & Mountaineering on Jan. 9–10 and Backcountry Skiing & Splitboarding on Feb. 13–14, 2027.

Build your knowledge online, then put it to work during a weekend of hands-on field training on Mt. Hood. Your home base? Mazama Lodge, where tour planning and debriefs come with a fire, hot chocolate and a crew of fellow mountain people.

Two nights of lodging, most meals and avalanche equipment loans are included. These courses are for Mazama members, so if snowy adventures are on your wish list, this is another good reason to find your people.

See the Mazama calendar for details and application deadlines.

The mountains can change your life. Cost shouldn’t keep you from discovering that.

A Mazama scholarship can mean learning to climb, finding your people and realizing you’re capable of more than you imagined.

Our goal is to offer financial aid for every course and activity we offer, helping anyone who wants to experience the Mazama community and the power of the mountains take that first — or next — step.

Making that possible is a priority for us. With our community’s support, we can help more people find connection, confidence and new possibilities in the mountains.

Interested in participating but concerned about cost? Explore financial aid at mazamas.org/financialaid/.
