Best Wishes to UCP Oregon’s John Goff!

After more than 13 years with UCP Oregon, John Goff, our Community Services Director, will be leaving UCP at the end of October to take on a new leadership role with another Oregon-based nonprofit.

Throughout his time at UCP, John has been a dedicated leader, colleague, and advocate for the people we support. His commitment to our customers, our staff, and the work of our Community Services Department has made a lasting impact on UCP Oregon.

As John says, “I have been both lucky and privileged to have worked alongside many of you, to be part of the CS department, and to witness our customers’ many successes. UCP has been such a huge part of my life, and I will miss being a part of the agency and seeing it thrive.”

John’s last day will be Friday, October 30. He and his team will be working carefully to ensure a smooth transition.

Please join us in thanking him for his many years of service and wishing him all the best in his next chapter.

Thank you, John! You will be missed!

We were saddened to learn of the passing of actor and disability rights advocate RJ Mitte, who died on October 12 at the age of 34.

Many members of the UCP community will know RJ from his role as Walter White Jr. on Breaking Bad. RJ was also a passionate advocate for people with disabilities, drawing on his own experiences living with cerebral palsy to promote greater inclusion and representation.

RJ served as a Celebrity Ambassador for United Cerebral Palsy, our national organization. We are so grateful for the work he did, both through his acting and his advocacy, to challenge stereotypes and promote greater opportunities for people with disabilities.

Our thoughts are with RJ's family, friends, and everyone whose lives he touched.

💚 Happy World Cerebral Palsy Day! 💚

Today, October 6, we’re joining people around the globe in celebrating people with cerebral palsy—and the families, friends, caregivers, and communities who love and support them.

A couple of fun facts:
🌎 The national United Cerebral Palsy organization helped found World Cerebral Palsy Day back in 2012.
💚 You can celebrate today by wearing green!

🎉 It’s Direct Support Professional Recognition Week, and we’re celebrating UCP Oregon’s amazing DSPs!

Our DSPs work directly with the people we support every day, helping them live more independently, work toward their goals, and do the things that matter to them.

We’ll be celebrating throughout the week. One thing we’re especially looking forward to: UCP employees will get to play with and cuddle baby goats! 🐐

To all of UCP’s amazing DSPs: thank you. We are so grateful for you!

As we shared a few weeks ago, UCP has made the difficult decision to close our Supported Employment program (Employment Solutions).

At the time of that announcement, we planned a closure date of October 1, 2026.

However, after receiving clarification from the state, we will be moving the closure date to October 31, 2026.

We know the closure of Employment Solutions is a significant change for our customers and staff, and we are committed to supporting them thoughtfully through the transition.

All other details from our previous announcement—including our partnership with Relay Resources—remain the same.

You can learn more about the transition here: https://www.ucpaorwa.org/news/an-important-update-about-supported-employment

UCP Oregon has an important update to share with our community.

After careful consideration, we have made the difficult decision to close our Supported Employment program, known as Employment Solutions, effective October 1st, 2026.

We know this is a significant change for our community, and particularly for our Employment Solutions customers, families, and staff. We are committed to supporting everyone affected as thoughtfully as possible through this transition.

*Supporting Our Customers Through the Change*

As part of planning for this change, UCP explored transition options with Supported Employment providers in our community and chose to work with Relay Resources as an option for customers.

Customers who would like to transition their Supported Employment services to Relay will have the opportunity to do so. Customers who prefer another provider can explore other options with their Personal Agent or Service Coordinator.

Our Employment Solutions team is working directly with customers to discuss next steps, and UCP will continue providing services while individual service transfers are approved and completed.

We are incredibly grateful to our Employment Solutions team—and to everyone who has contributed to this program over the years—for the skill, dedication, creativity, and care they have brought to UCP and the people we serve.

We ask our community to be especially thoughtful and supportive of our Employment Solutions customers, families, and staff during this time.

We are grateful for the understanding, care, and support of our UCP community as we navigate this transition together.
