The draft Ninth Power Plan is now available! Read the draft and submit your comments at nwcouncil.org/ninthpowerplan. Public hearings are planned for Idaho, Oregon, Washington, Montana, and online. A schedule will be announced soon. The Council is accepting comments through Oct. 16.
On Aug. 11, the Council voted unanimously to release a draft of the Ninth Power Plan to the public. This is an important step as we work toward finalizing our new plan for the Pacific Northwest’s electricity grid in the next several months. Our goal is to adopt the final Ninth Plan by the end of 2026, or in early 2027.
For the past several years, load growth and meeting energy demand have been mounting concerns in the Northwest. Load growth uncertainty is among the top issues the draft Ninth Plan proposes to address, along with extreme weather, risk of resource and transmission availability, and other pressing concerns.
The Council's proposal outlines a cost-effective regional resource strategy to meet energy needs by 2032, including renewables, energy conservation, demand response, natural gas, storage, and voltage regulation.
