Arrest Notification:

On October 12, 2026, the City of Portland's Automated License Plate Reader (ALPR) system generated an alert notifying Portland Police officers that a vehicle registered to a convicted s*x offender had entered Meadowbrook Park.

Officers immediately responded to the area, located the vehicle, and identified the driver as Scott Zachary Myers of Portland, Tennessee (pictured below). Upon arrival, officers also observed several children present in the park.

Officers confirmed that Mr. Myers was listed on the Tennessee S*x Offender Registry following a conviction for Receipt and Distribution of Child S*xual Exploitation Material.

During the subsequent investigation, officers also discovered that Mr. Myers had allegedly created and maintained a social media account that he failed to disclose as required by Tennessee's s*x offender registration laws.

Mr. Myers was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Sumner County Jail, where he was booked on the following charges:

Violation of the S*x Offender Registry – 2 Counts

This arrest serves as another example of the important role the City's Automated License Plate Reader (ALPR) system plays in supporting proactive law enforcement efforts and enhancing public safety. The system provided officers with timely information that allowed them to respond, investigate potential violations of Tennessee law, and take appropriate enforcement action.

The Portland Police Department remains committed to protecting our community, particularly our children, through proactive patrol efforts, the enforcement of s*x offender registration requirements, and the use of technology to assist in criminal investigations.

The charges and allegations referenced in this release are merely accusations of criminal conduct, not evidence. The defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt and convicted through due process of law.

On August 11, 2026, Portland Police officers conducted a traffic stop on Highway 31 after observing several traffic violations.

During the investigation, a K9 alerted to the vehicle, leading officers to discover an open container of alcohol and approximately 13.34 grams of suspected methamphetamine concealed inside the center console.

For perspective, at an estimated 0.1 gram per dose, that amount represents approximately 134 individual doses of methamphetamine.

The driver was arrested and charged with several traffic offenses and possession of methamphetamine with intent to resell.

We appreciate the proactive work of our officers and K9 team in keeping illegal drugs off our streets.

All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

A big thank you to the Sumner County SROs and J.W. Wiseman Elementary for inviting us out to spend some time with their kindergarten students yesterday.

We talked a little about what police officers and deputies do, answered a LOT of questions, and of course let the kids check out the police cars, lights, radios and equipment.

We’re pretty sure they enjoyed sitting in the police car more than listening to us talk…lol

Thank you to the teachers, staff and our SRO partners for having us. And thank you to the kids for making our morning a little more fun.

We enjoyed our visit!
