With Yora Nordic Spa - Brownstone – I just got recognized as one of their top fans! 🎉
So excited as the spa is nearing completion. What an amazing job after just breaking ground last spring and to be the first of its kind and size in North America. Portland ct will once more be making history. From an overgrown forgotten space that Dean Soucy and Darlene Rice cared for to a place to relax and heal. You will feel the vibe that's not made by hands in the stones and water that exist there. Sitting on a ledge 50ft above the water below where quarry workers worked hundreds of years to make , hard labor long hours you will rest on the same spot. Close your eyes and imagine stones being cut and moved by hand above where your sitting to make this possible. The Spa owners did a great job showing respect to the space as I did and I await the day it opens. You can find me at the bistro in the rain near the falls remembering the first day I found it and the many days I shared there with my bride.

Serenity Camp NH is a new, nature-focused restful retreat and project being developed by Dean Soucy in the Lakes Region of New Hampshire.
The camp represents a fresh start for Dean following the closing of Portland, Connecticut's Quarry View and the passing of his late wife and longtime park co-caretaker, Darlene Rice.
The Vision and Vibe
Dean is intentionally building Serenity Camp to replicate the same community-centric, nature-first atmosphere that visitors loved at the quarry. The core philosophy behind the land is to offer a tranquil space where visitors can "find the quiet, rest deeply, and live in the moment".
Features of the Land
• Natural Landscapes: The property features exposed historic stone walls and clear boundaries that blend into the surrounding forest terrain. Rustic Gathering Spaces: Initial plans include rustic, heated meeting areas designed for peaceful gatherings and spiritual reflection. Outdoor Recreation: The land is uniquely situated directly on a local snowmobile trail and is actively being cleared with plans to accommodate horseback riding and equine trail access. Suncook River Area: The property has been affectionately described by early visitors as a peaceful sanctuary near the Suncook River camp area.
Project Status
Development began in late August 2026, with Dean using heavy equipment to clear trails, uncover older stone structures, and maintain the grounds. While the project is still in its early property-clearing and setup stages, it has generated strong interest from members of the former Connecticut community looking forward to visiting once it officially opens.
Meanwhile, the former Portland, CT quarry location they managed is transitioning into a new wellness destination called the Yora Nordic Spa - Brownstone, which opens in November.

As caretakers of the north end of the quarry know as Quarry View is closing and the passing of Darlene Rice, Dean Soucy is continuing onto a new project in New Hampshire called Serenity Camp NH. It has the same vibe as the quarry did and work has started.

Memories: 2012 when the quarry was closing, Mike was no longer going to cut stone and Darlene Rice asked me to go down and get her a bench. Thinking it would be the last time we could get any Brownstone I paid $350 for a few stones to make her happy.
2019 We end up owning that area above water , part of the Quarry and called it Quarry View .
Dean Soucy Darlene Rice caretakers of this area from that time on. We created a place we loved to visit. We saw this opportunity for the Spa to be built and years of healing for all that visit. Now Darlene has past and like many owners of this land since 1686 we leave something for the history books. Our mark is on the walls dated 2019 like others we talked about going back to the 1800s. Think about the lifetimes that past and people that worked so hard for hundreds of years now a place to relax and heal. Darlene wrote many times about how this place would move you . Its going to be amazing to visit yet some sadness without my partner.
