The core function of the Commission on Asian and Pacific Islander Affairs, much like the Hispanic Affairs and Black Affairs Commission, is to facilitate communication and dissemination of information between state government and a particular segment of Oregon's minority community. This function not only benefits the Asian and Pacific Islander Americans in our communities, it also provides the state with information on how best to provide services to all its citizens.

Anniversaries invite reflection. They remind us that democracy is strongest when every community member has the opportunity to be heard and feels they belong.

As we celebrate 250 years of the United States, the Oregon Advocacy Commissions Office reaffirms its commitment to fostering inclusive public participation and ensuring all Oregonians, including systemically excluded and institutionally oppressed communities, help shape the decisions that affect their lives.

Our shared future is strongest when everyone has a seat and a voice at the table.

Yesterday, OCAPIA was honored to have joined for this powerful ceremony of Peace Between Nations. Thank you OBON SOCIETY, for not just hosting the event but for the work you do every day. Thank you, Consul General Ken Todoriki for your moving remarks, and a special thank you to the families who presented the flags to be returned to the solders’ families.

At a time when everything is heavy, this work is a powerful reminder that there is always an opportunity to do good.
