πŸ“£ HAVE YOU LOST YOUR JOB OR EXPERIENCING A LAYOFF? HERE’S HOW TO FILE FOR UNEMPLOYMENT IN MAINE.

If you've recently lost your job or had your hours reduced, you may be eligible for unemployment benefits. The Maine Department of Labor is here to help you understand the process and take the next step.

πŸ’» HOW TO FILE:

1️⃣ Visit ReEmployME: Start your unemployment claim online at https://www.maine.gov/unemployment/newtoui/

2️⃣ Gather your information: You'll need your Social Security number, a valid email address, and information about your employers over the past 18 months, including their names, addresses, phone numbers, and your dates of employment.

3️⃣ File as soon as possible: Don't delay filing while you're figuring out your next steps. Previous weeks generally cannot be considered if you haven't filed a claim.

4️⃣ Remember your weekly certifications: After filing, you must submit a weekly claim and meet applicable eligibility and work-search requirements to receive benefits. Don't wait for an approval notice to begin filing your weekly certifications.

Looking for work but facing barriers because of a disability? Vocational Rehabilitation may be able to help.

The Maine Department of Labor's Division of Vocational Rehabilitation (VR) helps people with physical, mental, or emotional disabilities prepare for, find, and keep employment.

VR services are individualized based on your employment goals and may include:

β€’ Career exploration and counseling
β€’ Vocational evaluations
β€’ Job-search and placement assistance
β€’ Resume and interview assistance
β€’ Job coaching and on-the-job support
β€’ Help identifying appropriate training programs
β€’ Assistance with tools, uniforms, or basic equipment needed for work
β€’ Retraining or education needed to pursue a new career
β€’ Information about employment opportunities and the labor market

Your VR counselor works with you to develop an employment plan based on your skills, abilities, interests, goals, and circumstances.

There is no cost to apply for VR services, and there is no charge for diagnostic services, vocational evaluation, counseling, or job-placement assistance. Eligibility and any potential cost-sharing for other services are determined based on individual circumstances.

If a disability is making it harder to reach your employment goals, you don't have to figure it out alone.

Learn more about Vocational Rehabilitation and apply for services through the Maine Department of Labor:

The Division of Vocational Rehabilitation, also known as "VR," is a Department of Labor program that helps people who have disabilities to find and keep a job. VR helps people who have physical, mental, or emotional disabilities.
