Today, 13 new Community Police Officers and two professional staff members joined the Portland Police Bureau, taking the Oath of Office and beginning their service to our city.

Chief Day encouraged the newest members of PPB to lead with curiosity, while Mayor Wilson thanked them for their commitment to Portland and told them how proud he is of their decision to serve.

It was a meaningful day for a Bureau continuing to move forward in service to the betterment of Portland.

: 13 new officers are meeting with Chief Day and members of his executive team before starting their law enforcement journey!

PPB has been outpacing our monthly application rate year after year after year; the agency received more applications last month over any other September dating back to 2019. Applicants in 2025 increased by 40% compared to 2023 and 15% compared to 2024, resulting in the largest cohort of new officers in over twenty-five years. The Bureau also met its hiring target of hiring 84 officers in a 12-month stretch last FY 25/26.
