Ever wonder what the inside of a 300-foot tank barge looks like?

Last Thursday, USCG Sector Virginia Marine Inspectors put on their personal protective equipment (PPE) and climbed down into the void spaces of an inland tank barge for a scheduled internal structural exam.

Behind the flashlights and hard hats is a critical mission: Coast Guard Marine Inspections. Our inspectors evaluate structural integrity, welds, framing, and bulkheads from the inside out to catch microscopic cracks or corrosion before they can become catastrophic failures.

Whether it's carrying petroleum, chemicals, or agricultural cargo along America’s marine highway, vessel safety protects our waterways, marine ecosystems, and port economies long before a ship ever sets sail.

Just another day on the watch - deep inside the steel hulls that keep commerce moving.

Belated Bravo Zulu to the U.S. Fleet Forces Band that supported the U.S.C.G. Sector Virginia Change of Command this year. Semper Paratus is a toe-tapper, but I think as many people knew the words to K-Pop Demon Hunters.

Job well done by WKTR’s Blaine Stewart on capturing the soul of the service. Bravo Zulu!
