KEEP THE MOMENTUM. RAISE THE STANDARD. LET’S KEEP GETTING STUFF DONE!

Portsmouth’s future takes leadership willing to work together, make tough decisions, and follow through. That is why I proudly endorse Councilman Vernon L. Tillage, Councilman Mark Hugel, and Councilman Bill Moody for reelection to City Council. Let’s keep this council together and continue moving our city forward. There is more work to do, and I’m ready to keep doing it alongside them.

For School Board, I proudly endorse Dr. Cardell Patillo Jr, Denzel Glover, and LuispadillaForportsmouths. Keeping Dr. Patillo’s leadership in place as chair while bringing fresh perspectives to the table will help us continue raising the standard. Together, they can push for stronger literacy, support for our educators, greater accountability, and the opportunities our students deserve.

Our schools must be a driving force in Portsmouth’s future. Progress gives us something to build on and every child deserves leaders determined to take that progress to the next level.

Keep this council working. Keep our schools climbing. Keep Portsmouth moving FORWARD!

63 years ago today, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. stood before our nation and shared a dream….. A dream of equality, opportunity, justice, and a better America.

Today, I reflect not only on how far we have come, but how much work remains and still needs to be done across our country and right here in Portsmouth.

That dream lives in the opportunities we create for our children, the strength of our neighborhoods, the success of our families, and our willingness to see beyond what divides us.

We will not always agree. But we cannot allow disagreement to stop progress.

I believe in Portsmouth. I believe in our people. And I believe our best days are still ahead if we are willing to build them together.

Dr. King’s dream was never meant simply to be remembered.

It was meant to be continued.

And together, we will.

What a great evening in Portsmouth!

The 2nd Annual Mercy Chefs Back to School Block Party was another incredible event for our children and families.

A huge thank you to Gary LeBlanc and the entire Mercy Chefs team for continuing to invest in our community. I also want to thank my fellow City Council members who came out, rolled up their sleeves, and helped hand out backpacks. That’s what public service is all about showing up and doing the work.

Thank you to every sponsor, volunteer, and community partner who made tonight possible.

This week, Portsmouth is proud to welcome the 2026 Multi-Agency Craft Conference (MACC) to our waterfront. Hosting this nationally recognized event is another reminder that Portsmouth continues to play a vital role in America’s maritime and defense industries.

Today, I had the opportunity to witness an incredible live demonstration, including the launch of a rocket system with a real live iron man 🙂, and to see firsthand the cutting edge technology shaping the future of maritime operations. Even more inspiring was watching local students experience these innovations up close, sparking curiosity and opening doors to future careers.

Our maritime industry is more than our history it’s our future. Events like MACC strengthen our local economy, showcase Portsmouth on a national stage, and create opportunities that will benefit our children for generations to come.

Thank you to the American Society of Naval Engineers, our military partners, exhibitors, and everyone who helped bring this outstanding conference to Portsmouth.

Portsmouth is making waves, leading in innovation, and investing in the next generation. The future is bright for our city

Happy Fourth of July 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

As we celebrate the Fourth of July and our nation's 250th birthday, we are reminded of the courage, sacrifice, and vision that built our country and continue to inspire us today.

This historic milestone is an opportunity to reflect on our shared values of freedom, unity, and service while celebrating the rich history and bright future of the City of Portsmouth. Our community has always been strengthened by the dedication of its residents, veterans, first responders, businesses, faith communities, and families who work together to make Portsmouth a place we are proud to call home.

As you gather with loved ones to enjoy cookouts, fireworks, and community events, I encourage everyone to celebrate safely, look out for one another, and take pride in the spirit that unites us.

On behalf of the City of Portsmouth, thank you for your continued commitment to our community. May you and your family have a safe, joyful, and memorable Independence Day as we celebrate 250 years of America's enduring promise.

Happy Fourth of July, and God bless Portsmouth and the United States of America.

Today, Portsmouth came together to honor the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for our nation. The 142nd Annual Memorial Day Parade was another reminder of the patriotism, pride, and strong community spirit that makes our city special.

It was an honor to welcome distinguished guests to Portsmouth, including Rear Admiral Zeita Merchant, the first African American woman Admiral in United States Coast Guard history, along with Capt. Derrek Burrus, the current Commander of the Coast Guard here in Portsmouth. Their presence helped make today’s celebration even more meaningful as we recognized the service and sacrifice of so many.

Thank you to all of the veterans, active-duty service members, marching bands, volunteers, city staff, and families who came out to support this long-standing Portsmouth tradition. Events like this remind us that freedom is never free, and it is our duty to continue honoring those who gave everything for this country.

Portsmouth is proud of our military community, proud of our history, and proud to continue traditions that bring generations together.

May we never forget the heroes we honor today. 🇺🇸

Even with cloudy skies today, the spirit of Portsmouth continues to shine bright at the 34th Annual Umoja Festival. Events like this remind us of the power of community, culture, family, and coming together as one city.

Thank you to everyone who has worked hard to make this festival a success year after year, and thank you to every resident and visitor who came out to celebrate the rich diversity and unity that makes Portsmouth special.

As we close out another incredible Umoja Festival, let us continue building a city where people feel connected, supported, and proud to call Portsmouth home.

This is Portsmouth. Find your way here.

What a great day for Portsmouth!

I had the pleasure of attending the Portsmouth Public Schools Annual History Bowl and seeing firsthand the talent, confidence, and knowledge of our young scholars from across all 13 elementary schools.

Congratulations to Churchland Primary for taking home the title it was well deserved!

And on a personal note, it meant a little more getting to watch my grandson compete alongside so many bright students. Moments like this remind me why we continue to invest in our schools and our children.

Our future is in good hands.

Proud of every student who participated and represented their school with excellence.
