Being seen is where support begins. 💛

For Maya, starting over at a new school meant more than finding her classrooms. It meant finding her place.

A Manor High School (manor_highschool_), CISofHR Site Coordinator Tre'Vaughn McNeil and the CISofHR Student Ambassadors help create those connections. His work starts with looking beyond behavior, building trust, and understanding what a student may be carrying. The student ambassadors extend that support through peer connections that help students feel welcomed and included.

A trusted adult. A welcoming peer. A reason to feel, “I belong here.”

Maya’s story shines a light on the power of this work—and the people who help turn a new school into a place of belonging.

It’s Feel Good Friday AND National Boss’s Day, so naturally… we brought receipts. 😂🎬

Marketing needed ONE 30-second video from our CEO.

Marketing wrote the script. ✅
Marketing sent the script. ✅
Marketing said, “Just read this on camera. Thirty seconds. Easy!” ✅

THIRTY-EIGHT videos and THREE HOURS later… we had our 30 seconds. 🤣

At this point, we have the commercial, the director’s cut, a blooper reel, and enough footage for a Netflix documentary.

But we love a leader who keeps showing up—even if it’s for take 38. 💙🧡

Happy Boss’s Day to our CEO Hope R. Sinclair! Thank you for your heart, your persistence, and for giving Marketing content you definitely didn’t know we were going to use. 👀😂

A student’s opportunity to learn should never depend on whether there is enough food at home.

On World Food Day, we recognize the families navigating food insecurity—and the schools, donors, volunteers, and community partners helping ensure students have access to nourishing food.

Through school pantries, emergency assistance, referrals, and community partnerships, CIS Site Coordinators help connect students and families with support in ways that protect their dignity.

Because when a student’s basic needs are supported, they have more room to focus on learning, belonging, and building their future.

She was late. She was quiet. She hung back.

Someone could have told her to try harder. Instead, a trusted adult took the time to ask what was making school hard.

That’s the power of a CISofHR Site Coordinator: seeing beyond the behavior, building trust, and connecting a student with support that meets the need.

For Maya, that meant help finding her way—and a Student Ambassador who made room for her.

“You helped me find my classrooms. Then you helped me find my people.”

Before you tap “share,” ask: Could this hurt someone?

A rumor, embarrassing photo, or cruel comment can spread when people join in—even with a reaction or a quick forward.

Don’t amplify it. Use the platform’s reporting tools, reach out with support, and tell a trusted adult when a student is being targeted.

The person on the other side of the screen deserves respect, too. 🧡

💙 THANKFUL THURSDAY | Good Conversations. Shared Purpose. Stronger Communities.

Sometimes the first step toward making a difference is simply creating space for a conversation.

Yesterday, our CEO, Hope R. Sinclair, Ph.D., and Development Coordinator MaryHelen Hilton had the pleasure of spending time with the Chesapeake Rotary, sharing the mission and impact of Communities In Schools of Hampton Roads.

It was a wonderful opportunity to connect with community leaders, discuss the challenges students and families face, and highlight how caring adults and community partnerships help remove barriers to student success.

A heartfelt THANK YOU to the Rotary Club of Chesapeake for the warm welcome, thoughtful engagement, and, most importantly, giving us the time and space to share our story. 🙏🏽

We believe meaningful partnerships begin with meaningful conversations, and we’re grateful for every opportunity to build connections around our students.

Because when a community shows up for students, possibilities grow. 💙

💼 WORKFORCE WEDNESDAY | Strong Schools. Strong Communities. Stronger Futures.

The workforce of tomorrow is sitting in today’s classrooms. 🎓

This morning, our CEO, Hope R. Sinclair, Ph.D., joined community leaders, educators, and partners at the 2026 State of the Schools Leadership Breakfast, hosted by the Portsmouth Schools Foundation in partnership with Portsmouth Public Schools.

As Portsmouth Public Schools celebrates a historic milestone, conversations about progress, priorities, and the future of education are more important than ever.

At Communities In Schools of Hampton Roads, we recognize that workforce development begins long before a student enters the workforce. It begins with removing barriers to learning, building confidence, strengthening relationships, and helping students see what’s possible beyond graduation.

Thank you to the Portsmouth Schools Foundation, Portsmouth Public Schools, and presenting sponsor Elizabeth River Crossings for bringing our community together around student success.

Because investing in students today means investing in Hampton Roads’ future workforce. 💙

💚 Strong Girls. Strong Connections. Brighter Futures! 💜

Sometimes the most meaningful lessons happen beyond the classroom!

We’re proud to see this partnership between DiDiamond Springs Elementary SchoolGiGirl Scout Council of Colonial Coastolunteers, and our CISofHR Site Coordinator creating opportunities for young girls to build confidence, navigate challenges, strengthen friendships, and develop leadership skills.

Every other week, these girls are gaining something that will stay with them far beyond elementary school: the tools to believe in themselves and support one another. 💕

Thank you to the Girl Scout volunteers, Diamond Springs Elementary, Ashley Hay and our school and community partners for showing what happens when we work together to invest in our students.

This is what Being Present Matters looks like in action! 💙
