Thanks Anne Burger for Dutchess County Legislator District 2 for supporting this important local non-profit!

My second year attending the Center for Prevention of Child Abuse fundraiser and I am once again overwhelmed by the dedication of the employees who serve this organization. Additionally, last night Michael & Courtney Baroni and Nicholas & Megan Spaccarelli were honored for their generous support of the CPCA. Highlighted last night was the outstanding role our local police force, government leaders and judges contribute to supporting victims of child abuse.

Ulster County Republicans blast proposed income tax hike as attack on small businesses 05/27/2026

Just across the river, Ulster County Democrats are proposing a new county income tax surcharge, another sign of how quickly affordability can erode when government keeps looking for new ways to tax residents and small businesses.

Dutchess County families are already dealing with high costs for groceries, utilities, housing, and property taxes. The last thing Hudson Valley residents need is another layer of taxation that could push employers, entrepreneurs, and working families out of the region.

This is exactly why fiscal responsibility matters at the local level.

This Memorial Day, we pause to honor the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country. Their sacrifice secured the freedoms we enjoy every day, and we owe them a debt that can never truly be repaid.

As we gather with family and friends this weekend, let us also take a moment to remember those who never made it home — and the families who carry their memory forward.

From all of us in the Dutchess County Legislature Republican Caucus, we extend our gratitude to our fallen heroes and to all who have served our nation with honor.

May we never forget their courage, sacrifice, and love of country. 🇺🇸

Rolison’s Utility Tax Holiday legislation moves forward 05/16/2026

Momentum continues to build for Senator Rolison’s utility tax holiday proposal.

Now, the legislation itself is moving forward in Albany, while Putnam County legislators have already passed a memorialization supporting it.

Families across Dutchess County are struggling with rising energy costs, and this proposal would provide real, immediate relief on utility bills.

It is time for the Chair of the Dutchess County Legislature to place our resolution on the agenda and allow this issue to be openly debated.

During National Police Week, we honor the brave men and women in law enforcement who put themselves in harm’s way to keep our communities safe every single day.

We also remember the officers who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty and keep their families in our thoughts and prayers. Their service and dedication will never be forgotten.

To all of our local police officers across Dutchess County and beyond: thank you for your professionalism, courage, and commitment to protecting our neighborhoods. Your work matters, and our community is stronger because of you.

Putnam Legislature supports Rolison’s “Utility Tax Holiday” bill 05/15/2026

Putnam County legislators have now passed a memorialization supporting Senator Rolison’s utility tax holiday proposal.

Their message was simple: residents are struggling with rising energy costs and deserve relief.

Our caucus introduced a similar resolution here in Dutchess County. Unfortunately, it was never placed on the agenda for debate.

This issue is about affordability, and residents deserve an open discussion about ideas that could help lower utility costs.

Last week, a proposal that would have provided temporary utility tax and surcharge relief for residents was not even brought forward for discussion.

At a time when so many families are struggling with rising energy costs, we believe ideas like this deserve an open and honest debate.

The full Board meeting will be held on Monday, May 11th at 6:30 PM in the Legislative Chambers at 22 Market Street in Poughkeepsie.

Public comment will be held at the end of the meeting, and we encourage residents to come share their thoughts. Whether you support the proposal or simply believe these issues deserve discussion, your voice matters.

If your utility bill has gone up, you’re not alone.

Affordability isn’t a partisan issue. It’s something every family in Dutchess County is feeling right now. Many residents are struggling with rising energy costs, and utility bills are putting real pressure on household budgets.

That’s why we introduced a resolution supporting a plan to deliver real, immediate relief on utility bills.

Unfortunately, that resolution was not placed on this month’s committee agenda.

At a time when so many are struggling, we believe ideas that could provide meaningful savings deserve to be part of the conversation.

Other counties are already taking action. We believe Dutchess County should too.
