Halloweekend is fast-approaching, are you ready? 🤔

We can’t help with candy, but if you’re looking for a last-minute costume, consider our MCDC superheroes: VOLUNTEER MEDIATORS! No mask required, just a deep-rooted sense of service, high integrity, and the ability to support people through hard times. 🎃

Jokes aside, it’s always the right time to celebrate our volunteers - and remind them how supernatural their sense of community is! 🧡

We’re delighted to introduce you to Lanna Plateroti! Our newest team member earned a bachelor of science degree in criminal justice, and was shaped by undergraduate internships focused on youth justice.

She has joined MCDC as our Restorative Justice Programs Coordinator — where she's helping faculty, staff, and students build community through restorative practices. Welcome, Lanna!

We live, work, and learn in community! 💪

We love being rooted in Dutchess, but we’re also proud to be part of the statewide Community Dispute Resolution Centers network! On Thursday, our team joined colleagues in Albany to strengthen how we track and report our impact. Check out Executive Director Leanne Lawson and Program Assistant Corey Lee grabbing a quick photo under the New York State Unified Court System seal!

We loved coming together with colleagues and community members on Friday for An Evening with Grace—a heartfelt celebration of the Grace Smith House, Inc.. Listening is at the core of what we do, and this event filled us with hope through music and powerful stories of resilience. Big thanks to The Stissing Center for Arts and Culture for hosting such a meaningful night in honor of Domestic Violence Awareness Month. 💜

If you’re experiencing abusive or controlling dynamics at home, Grace Smith House is here to help all-year round. 🌐 ⬇️

It’s been a minute since we’ve shared a throwback - and about 7 million minutes since this photo was taken in 2012. 🤯

Leaving aside the passage of time, this is a sweet find. Here are Law Professor Tsuneo Niki from Osaka University, former MCDC Executive Director Jody Miller, and mediator and board member Dr. Karen Blonder. Each is a part of our lineage of work and practice, and we’re grateful!

We’re so grateful to be recognized by the Vassar Community and their generous campaign supporting local organizations! Thank you for lifting us up. 🥹

We’ve loved partnering with Vassar students, staff, and professors over the years to turn conflict ➡ conversation. Their care for community inspires us every day. Want to learn more? Check out the original post below!

October is full of important cultural observances, and one that’s especially close to our hearts is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. 💜

Domestic violence is not the same as conflict—it’s about power dynamics, often taking many forms. Thanks to our friends at Grace Smith House, Inc., we’re sharing their helpful overview of this important issue. Want to learn more? Check out their resources and let’s keep the conversation going. 💬

On Friday, our Restorative Justice team joined colleagues and community members at the 2026 Building Bridges Conference at Dutchess Community College. Through thoughtful presentations and networking, we left feeling grounded in our collaborators' collective wisdom! We’re grateful to fellow nonprofits, schools, and our local government for making it such an enriching experience. 🎒
