🍂 Check out the spectacular fall views along the riverfront and Walkway Over the Hudson this morning!

It’s going to be the perfect weekend to enjoy peak colors on the City of Poughkeepsie’s waterfront!

🍎 Join us tomorrow – Saturday, October 24 – at Waryas Park from noon until 3pm for free c***r, donuts, and apples handed out by our police officers and firefighters to kick off the season. Kids can also enjoy pumpkin decorating.

Plus, you’ll have a chance to share YOUR ideas with our City’s development team about what should become of the empty, 14-acre DeLaval site on our southern waterfront.

We hope to see you there!

🚧🦺 We have a BIG UPDATE on our 5-year paving plan!

The City of Poughkeepsie has finished repaving another round of streets, and we just secured $3.6 MILLION in state funding to finally fix South Grand Avenue!

We’re aiming to begin the South Grand Avenue project in Spring 2027. The project includes installing a new storm sewer system and sidewalks to tackle the street's major drainage issues so that it can be repaved.

The project is focused on the stretch of South Grand Avenue from Ho**er Avenue to College Avenue, but our engineering and public works departments are also actively coordinating future paving of other sections from College Avenue to Main Street.

Mayor Yvonne Flowers and the City want to extend a big thank you to Governor Kathy Hochul and the New York State Department of Transportation for awarding this critically needed funding to fix a street that has been a headache for our residents for far too long.

🚛🚨 IMPORTANT NOTICE: The City of Poughkeepsie is once again offering FREE bulk curbside pickup for our residents, and registration begins next week!

If you have an old couch, mattress, or other big items you want to get rid of, the City is here to help. Just sign up October 12-16 by calling the Department of Public Works Dispatch at 845-451-4111 and leaving a message with your name, address, and phone number.

You can have up to 5 items picked up. Our sanitation crews will be out on Wednesday, October 21 to haul everything away.

Remember: You must register to have your items picked up!

🚨🚔 75 MPH AND 71 MPH. That’s how fast some drivers were caught speeding right by an elementary school in our City!

The City of Poughkeepsie Police Department’s Traffic Safety Unit has been out in force, cracking down on dangerous speeders to protect students as they walk to school and cross busy streets. Take a look at these recent speeding tickets to see how fast people have been driving near our schools.

Our police officers will keep putting the brakes on speeding to keep our kids safe. Slow down. It could save a life.

Today, the City of Poughkeepsie honored the lives lost and the brave heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice and ran toward danger to save others 25 years ago.

Our firefighters, police officers, City employees, and community members came together at the 9/11 Memorial outside City Hall – a memorial forged from a steel beam recovered from the ruins of the World Trade Center – to mark this somber day.

We will never forget.

🕯️ 25 YEARS LATER, WE REMEMBER.

Join us tomorrow as the City of Poughkeepsie comes together to mark 25 years since the September 11 attacks.

Our firefighters, police officers, City staff, and community will gather at 10:00AM for a ceremony at the 9/11 Memorial outside City Hall – a memorial forged from a steel beam recovered from the ruins of the World Trade Center.

We will remember the lives lost and the heroes who ran toward danger on that dark day.

👮‍♂️🏆 HERO OFFICER HONORED

The City of Poughkeepsie’s Common Council has voted unanimously to recognize retired Police Officer Michael Barbagallo as the City’s 2026 Hero of the Year.

In February, Officer Barbagallo was first on the scene of a house fire. Without any protective firefighting gear, he ran into the burning building and evacuated several residents before firefighters arrived.

During this week’s Common Council meeting, Officer Barbagallo reunited with one of the women he saved that day. In another selfless act, Barbagallo gave her the $500 award he received from a local radio station for his heroism and service to the community.

Congratulations—and thank you, Officer Barbagallo, for always putting others first! 👏

🚗⚠️ PUBLIC SAFETY ANNOUNCEMENT

The City of Poughkeepsie is lowering the citywide speed limit to 25 mph starting September 1—just before the new school year, when hundreds of kids will be walking to school.

The goal is simple: make our streets safer and save lives.

There will be a period of public education and outreach to give residents and drivers time to adjust to the new speed limit.

The Common Council voted to adopt the reduced speed limit after a study by the Dutchess County Transportation Council examined crash data throughout the city.

The arterials are state roadways and are not subject to the reduced citywide speed limit. However, the City is working with the state to step up speed enforcement, including speed cameras in school zones and red light cameras at the city’s busiest intersections.

🚒🔥 Today, Vincent "Vinny" Parise was officially sworn in as the City of Poughkeepsie’s new Fire Chief! Born and raised in Poughkeepsie, Chief Parise has dedicated his life to protecting our community, and he takes the helm after nearly 25 years of service to his hometown.

Congratulations, Chief Parise! The City is proud to have you leading Poughkeepsie’s Bravest! 👏

🚒🔥 The City of Poughkeepsie’s Bravest have a new leader!

Fire Chief Vinny Parise will be officially sworn in at City Hall on Monday, August 17 at 2:00 p.m.

Born and raised right here in Poughkeepsie and a proud Poughkeepsie High School graduate, Parise answered the call to serve his hometown and became a firefighter just four days after the 9/11 attacks.

Through courage, dedication, and over two decades of service, he rose through the ranks to become Deputy Chief under Chief Joe Franco.

Last year, Parise stepped up as Acting Chief and proved he was ready to lead our brave firefighters.

Join us in congratulating Chief Parise! 👏
