Domestic violence is never acceptable. Not for anyone, and certainly not for someone entrusted with public office.

Councilman Grant has been reportedly charged with serious domestic violence-related felonies including assault, burglary, strangulation, and unlawful imprisonment, along with a misdemeanor charge of endangering the welfare of a child.

He is entitled to due process and his day in court, as anyone would be. But if these allegations are true, he should resign immediately.

If he contests the charges and the legal process should run its course, under our city charter, a councilmember’s seat becomes vacant upon conviction of a felony with no exceptions.

I’m a lucky guy. 🍀

It’s been exactly one month since the primary election, and I’ve been taking some time to reconnect with my family, friends, and community to get re-energized for the fights yet to come.

Whether it’s dancing in the fields with my Poughkeepsie Farm Project family to celebrate the start of summer, getting ice cream cones at Joe’s Dairy Bar, or spending a beach day at Lake Taghkanic state park, it’s been an incredible summer so far.

We’ve celebrated so much—Danielle’s birthday🧑‍🍳, America’s birthday 🐖, our nephew’s first birthday 🎈, my mom’s # birthday 🎂, all while chilling with Harvey and planning for our baby to come in the fall—it’s been a beautiful, special time for us.

Of course the work never stops—from fixing our broken fridge to mending farm fences, I’m proud to be able to work with both my mind and my hands to build a better life, community, and world for my family and my neighbors.

I’ve also spent a lot of time recently where I’m always the most comfortable—behind a grill, a stove, and a chopping block. Cooking is my meditation, and cooking for family and friends is my favorite way to show love and appreciation.

After this beautiful, busy, relaxing but somehow still stressful month, I’m excited to be back, re-energized and ready to help all of our Democratic candidates in the Mid-Hudson Valley win in November!!!

I want to start with thank you.

To every volunteer, donor, supporter, and voter who gave this campaign a chance — thank you. To everyone who knocked doors, made calls, sent texts, chipped in a few bucks, put up a lawn sign, or talked to your neighbors about this race: this campaign was yours.

We came up short in our race for State Senate, but I am so proud of what we built together.

This campaign was never just about one election. It was about proving that politics can still belong to working people. It was about building a people-powered movement across the Hudson Valley and giving people something real to believe in.

We built something real. We brought new people into this fight. We built relationships, community, and a coalition that stretched across towns, across generations, across race, and across the river. That matters — and it will keep mattering long after this race.

I’m not going anywhere. I’ll keep serving on the Poughkeepsie Common Council, I’ll do everything I can to help defeat the Republican incumbent in November, and I’ll keep fighting for this community every single day.

Thank you for believing in me, in this campaign, and in this movement.

This movement does not end here. I love this community, I’m proud of what we built together, and I’ll see you in the fight. ❤️

PS - if you see a lawn sign out there, pick it up and DM me and we will come get it from you.
