For Immediate Release: Dutchess County Legislature to Consider New Legislation on Homelessness alongside 26 Oakley Agreement

Poughkeepsie, New York - (September 8, 2026) Dutchess County Legislators today introduced a package of four resolutions addressing homelessness across the County. The resolutions will be taken up at the Committee meetings on Thursday, September 10, 2026.

The 26 Oakley Street agreement now before the Legislature addresses how one building will be used. These four resolutions take up the questions it does not: how the County’s existing outreach and crisis services work together, who follows up with a person after a first contact, where shelter and housing capacity should be developed, and who is accountable for a long-term plan.

With a five-year clock that starts ticking on January 1, 2027, to find alternative housing, the executive branch and the Legislature must work together to create and implement a Long Term Plan for housing those who are homeless. These resolutions provide that framework.
