This could be you if you participate in The Preserve at Vassar’s tree-hugging photo competition!!! There are ONLY 2 DAYS LEFT to submit pics and vids of you hugging the plethora of trees that can be found on and around Vassar’s campus!

🌲 Today our Preserve interns showed the trees near the Learning Forest (peep it in the background 👀) lots of L.O.V.E. for all they do for us!

🌳 While we have had some submissions to the photo competition, we want to see EVEN MORE examples of you giving all your love to the trees in Vassar’s arboretum!

🌲 Get out there, get hugging, and don’t forget to photograph yourself while you’re at it! When you submit your photos to the form (link in bio), don’t forget that you are automatically entered into the competition to win prizes like epic tree posters, a tree puzzle, a tree identification guide, and more!! You know you want those for your house or dorm!

🌳 The prizes will be distributed at the Old Growth Forest Network event (more details to come so soon), so make sure to be there to celebrate if you submitted any photos!! We can’t wait to see all of the love you have for trees!

WE WILL BE GIVING AWAY FREE NATIVE POLLINATOR-FRIENDLY PLANTS!! We’ll be turning some plants upside down next Wednesday at the part one of the Sunset Lake Pollinator Garden Revitalization Project: Potting-Up Day!

🌿 In an attempt to beautify and revitalize the dilapidated old pollinator garden near Sunset Lake (marked on the map so you can find it), the Preserve team who has been managing the garden thus far will be removing the old plants and making way for new beds filled with beautiful, native, pollinator-friendly plants, as well as an art installation! However, the Preserve team cannot accomplish this hefty feat alone, so they’re calling on you (yes, you) to come and help pot-up some plants (which you then get to keep)!

🌱 Because pots and shovels are limited, bring your own if you have them, and expect to take home a native plant or two (if you so desire) to place in your backyard! Snacks will be served and great, eco-friendly community bonding will occur, so we hope to see you there!

🌿 Note that this is part one of a two part event, so if you can’t make it to potting-up day, stay tuned for planting day…

🌱 If you have any questions, reach out to Sol Longoria at [email protected]!

📍Where? Sunset Lake Pollinator Garden (marked on map)

⏰ Time? 3pm-5pm

📅 Day? Wednesday, April 29th

Local teens from Community Matters 2 - "CM2" have been exploring The Preserve as our "Poughkeepsie Outing Club". Stay tuned for more photos and videos of our adventurous crew as they head out to other parks and trails in Dutchess County this spring!

CM2 is outside, literally! 🌿
In partnership with the Preserve at Vassar, our youth are taking part in the “Outing Program,” where they’re building real-world skills while connecting with nature. From identifying plants and berries to learning how to safely build a fire and set up a hammock, they’re gaining hands-on experience that deepens their ecological awareness and appreciation for the outdoors.
Learning, growing, and thriving, one adventure at a time.
