October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, a time to stand with survivors and recommit ourselves to making sure our laws provide the protection and accountability they deserve.
As Ranking Member of the Senate Crime Victims, Crime and Correction Committee, strengthening protections for survivors remains one of my priorities. That includes my legislation, S.6835, which would strengthen penalties for individuals who violate court-ordered supervision in domestic violence cases, including those who violate protective orders or abscond while under electronic monitoring.
A protective order should mean something. When someone disregards the safeguards put in place to protect a survivor, there must be meaningful consequences.
