City Council Meeting Recap | Oct. 6

✔️ Council determined that a referendum petition seeking to repeal Ordinance 2026-14, Powell's planning and zoning code rewrite, and place the repeal before voters did not meet the requirements for a valid referendum petition. The petition was determined to be insufficient and invalid.

✔️ Approved a professional services agreement with Schubert Tennis LLC for maintenance and resurfacing of the tennis courts at Arbor Ridge Park.

✔️ Council authorized 76 Fence Columbus Northwest for Phase 1 of the Bennett Farm fence removal and replacement project.

The project includes removing and replacing approximately 1,350 feet of six-foot privacy fencing at Bennett Farm, including an 8-foot-wide by 6-foot-high double gate. The proposed project will use cedar fencing, recommended by staff for its natural appearance and durability. While cedar has a higher upfront cost than pressure-treated pine, the $107,580 project remains within the $225,000 budget allocated for Bennett Farm site maintenance in the 2026 Capital Improvement Plan. The remaining $117,420 will allow the City to complete additional improvements at the property. Other planned Bennett Farm work includes a new multi-use path, removing existing buildings north of the fence project, dismantling the historic barn and safely storing its materials for future reuse on the property.
