💜 Domestic violence doesn't always leave bruises.
Sometimes, the signs are:
- Walking on eggshells to avoid angering someone.
- Constantly checking your phone or location because someone expects you to.
- Being isolated from friends and family.
- Having your money, phone, or location controlled.
- Being constantly criticized, belittled, or blamed.
- Feeling pressured into s*x or having boundaries ignored.
- Changing your behavior out of fear of someone's reaction.
- Being threatened, intimidated, or manipulated into believing it's your fault.
The absence of bruises is not the absence of abuse.
Let's stop asking why someone stayed or didn't leave sooner, and start recognizing the many forms abuse can take.
➡Let's start asking why someone felt entitled to hurt, control, or intimidate them in the first place.⬅
This Domestic Violence Awareness Month, PVRS stands alongside The Willow Collaborative, shining our spotlights purple in recognition of survivors, in support of those still living in fear, and in remembrance of those whose stories were never heard.
💜 Believe survivors. Challenge the stigma. Be the reason someone knows they aren't alone.
