Pronghorn Ridge Middle School to Host Mock Scene Event

Pronghorn Ridge Middle School is partnering with the Prescott Valley Police Department (PVPD) and the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety to host a mock DUI scene on October 30, 2026, to showcase the dangers of being under the influence of alcohol/drugs and operating a motor vehicle.

Through interactive demonstrations and real-world examples, students will learn how impaired driving affects judgment, coordination, reaction time, and safety.

The assembly will feature:
- Impairment Goggles: Simulate the effects of alcohol impairment on coordination and perception.
- K9 Demonstration: Learn about PVPD's K9 Unit and its role in law enforcement.
- Wrecked Vehicle Display: A visual reminder of the consequences of unsafe driving.
- Educational Presentation: PVPD personnel will discuss impaired driving risks, responsible choices, and lasting consequences.

The event aims to educate students before they reach driving age, encouraging responsible decision-making and the lasting effects that preventable drunk driving accidents have on a community and individuals within the community.

Prescott Valley Police Department Receives Multiple Grants for Highway, Street Safety

The Governor's Office of Highway Safety awarded five new grants for the Fiscal Year 2026-2027 to the Prescott Valley Police Department (PVPD), all of which promise to improve safety on local streets and highways. The PVPD would like to thank the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety for partnering with us to improve the safety of the roadways in and around Prescott Valley.

The first grant, for $62,779, is designated for the Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP), which also allows law enforcement to provide overtime, equipment, materials, and supplies. Due to normal calls for service, it is often difficult to staff selective enforcement.

The second grant, for $77,433, is for DUI/Impairment Overtime, Materials & Supplies. This funding goes to staffing of DUI task forces, local DUI patrols, underage alcohol consumption, and the numerous specific supplies that are required of a successful DUI prosecution, such as blood kit tubes and phlebotomy supplies.

The third grant is designated for Pedestrian & Bicycle Safety Enforcement Overtime, Materials & Supplies in the amount of $30,462. This grant includes pedestrian education and makes it possible to place traffic officers in areas where most crashes occur and where violations are most dangerous.

The fourth grant, for $44,179, will focus on occupant protection prevention activities and education at schools, daycares, and other public events.

The fifth grant, for $9,689, supports Accident Investigation Overtime, Equipment, and Supplies. This funding helps ensure that officers have the resources necessary to respond to and investigate serious traffic collisions. These efforts are essential to determining the causes of collisions and supporting successful case resolution.
Analysis of prior grant funding has proven that the ability to allow officers to focus on a specific issue of concern translates to remarkably effective results, which we look forward to continuing in the years to come. GOHS grants, such as these, are very effective tools in keeping our streets and highways safe.

Stay alert! If you notice reckless behavior on the road from drivers, pedestrians, or bicyclists, report it to law enforcement as soon as possible.

A huge thank you to everyone who came out to support the charity basketball game featuring Prescott Fire Department vs. Prescott Valley Police Department, Prescott Police Department, and Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office.

Thank you to everyone who participated, donated, joined the raffle, and helped bring our community together for such a great cause. Together, these teams and our amazing community raised $2,000 for local student athletes - $1,000 for Pronghorn Ridge Middle School and $1,000 for Mile High Middle School. These funds will support the schools’ sports programs and the students who participate, creating more opportunities for our young athletes to learn, grow, and succeed.

We’re grateful for the incredible community support and proud to serve a community that shows up for its schools and students!
