We are proud to announce the promotion of Firefighter/Paramedic Michael DiVito Jr. to Captain of D Crew!

Captain DiVito began his service with the Caribou Fire and Ambulance Department in 2006 as a paid call firefighter. In addition to his fire and EMS duties, Mike also served as the department custodian before becoming a full-time Firefighter/Paramedic in 2014. Throughout his career, he also spent many years serving as a flight critical care paramedic and is a recipient of the Phoenix Award.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Captain DiVito has made a significant impact on our community. He leads our smoke detector installation program and the Caribou Toy Project, which provides hundreds of Christmas gifts to children in families in need. He is well known to local children as “Firefighter Mike” and dedicates countless hours to fire safety education in our schools through our Learn Not to Burn program.

Mike’s commitment to this department and the community we serve is something to be proud of.

Congratulations, Captain Michael DiVito! We wish you the very best in your new role!

The City of Presque Isle is currently accepting applications for two (2) Firefighter/Paramedic positions.

The City of Presque Isle Fire Department is seeking motivated, career-minded professionals to join an innovative and progressive organization. This is an excellent entry-level opportunity for individuals looking to build a rewarding career in fire and emergency services.

The Presque Isle Fire Department serves approximately 75 square miles, with a nighttime population of approximately 9,800 that increases to roughly 20,000 during the daytime.

Position Responsibilities

Firefighter/Paramedics are responsible for providing a broad range of emergency and public safety services, including:

* Emergency medical services and advanced life support through 911 responses
* Fire suppression and emergency response
* Airport firefighting and emergency operations
* Fire prevention activities
* Life safety inspections
* Hazardous materials response and decontamination
* Other duties associated with fire, EMS, and public safety operations

Personnel work a 24-hour shift schedule consisting of 24 hours on duty, 24 hours off duty, 24 hours on duty, followed by 120 hours off duty.

Compensation and Benefits

The City of Presque Isle offers a comprehensive benefits package, including:

* 25-year retirement plan providing 2/3 of final compensation with no age requirement
* Competitive wages with scheduled step increases
* Employee and family medical insurance coverage
* Paid vacation
* Paid sick leave
* Additional benefits provided through the City’s employee benefits program

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must:

* Be at least 18 years of age
* Possess a high school diploma or GED
* Possess a valid driver’s license
* Hold a current Maine EMT, AEMT, or Paramedic license, or be currently enrolled in a Paramedic program with an anticipated completion date within 12 months

Preferred Qualifications

* Firefighter II certification
* College degree from an accredited institution

EMTs and Advanced EMTs will also be considered and must obtain a Maine Paramedic license within 24 months of appointment.
