The members of Prestonsburg Fire Department extend our deepest condolences to the family, friends, and members of David Fire Department following the passing of Larry Tussey.

Larry was more than a founding member of David Fire Department. He was a dedicated board member, a true historian, and a treasured keeper of the history and heritage of the David community. His knowledge, dedication, and love for his community helped preserve the stories and traditions that make David such a special place. His contributions to his community and the fire service will not be forgotten. Beyond his service to his community, Larry was a father and a proud grandfather who loved his grandchildren dearly. The love he had for his family was an important part of his life, and the memories he created with his children and grandchildren will remain a lasting part of his legacy. While his absence will leave a tremendous void, the love he poured into his family will continue to live on through the generations he leaves behind. This loss is especially close to our department as Larry’s son, Michael Tussey, serves as a Captain with Prestonsburg Fire Department. During this difficult time, we ask our community to keep Michael and his family in their thoughts and prayers as they navigate the loss of a beloved father, grandfather, family member, and friend.

Rest easy, Larry. Thank you for your years of service, your dedication to your community, and the history you worked so hard to preserve. Your legacy will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved you.

With deepest sympathy,

Prestonsburg Fire Department

As of the time of this posting, at approximately 10:30 AM, The Parade scheduled for today is continuing as planned. As of now, the National Weather Service forecast predicts the lowest chance of rain for the day is during the parade, though that chance currently sits at 50-60% so plan accordingly.

📍Lineup begins at 2:00 at the Old Food Stamp Office at the intersection of North Lake and University Drive. The parade will begin promptly at 3:00.

📍 All first responder vehicles or official Jenny Wiley Festival Floats need to report to Prestonsburg High School and all vehicles affiliated with the Shrine Club should report to the People’s Bank across from Prestonsburg High School.

🚨 All roads will be shut down, as they are every year, at exactly 2:30 PM. At 2:40 PM Lake Drive will become impassable. Police Officers and Fire/EMS Personnel will be staged at every intersection. We will reopen the road except for the strip in front of City Hall immediately following the parade.

🚨 All floats needing to RETURN ON THE MAIN ROAD from PMC to the parade start location need to stage at the Pikeville Medical Center parking lot and await instructions for es**rt back through town. All small passenger vehicles will be required to take alternate routes.

We will keep you updated!

Today, the members of the Prestonsburg Fire Department pause to remember the lives lost and the heroes who answered the call on September 11, 2001.
We remember the 2,977 innocent lives taken that day, including firefighters, EMTs, paramedics, law enforcement officers, and other emergency responders who ran toward danger while others were running away. We honor the 343 members of the FDNY, including firefighters, EMTs, and paramedics, who made the ultimate sacrifice. We also remember the emergency responders who survived that day—coworkers who lost friends, brothers, sisters, and partners right beside them, yet somehow found the strength to continue serving. For those who survived, September 11 wasn’t simply a day in history. It was the day they lost coworkers, friends, and family members. They carried those memories home and have carried them with them every day since. As firefighters, EMTs, and paramedics, we understand the bond between those who answer the same calls, ride the same trucks, and stand beside one another when people need help most. That bond makes the sacrifices of September 11 especially personal.
Today, we remember those who never came home, we honor those who survived, and we stand with every responder who continues to carry the weight of that day.

We remember.
We honor.
We carry their legacy forward.
We will never forget. 🇺🇸

September 11, 2001 — Never Forget.
