Company 1 originated October 31,1957 by a group of 48 men and women who recognized the need for fire protection in the community and pioneered the fire system of Prince George County for those to follow. We have evolved into a group of dedicated active volunteers who serve the county 24/7/365. Engine 1, Engine 12, Truck 1, Tanker 1, Squad 1, Brush 1, Jeep 1, Utility 1, Support 1, Responder 1, Haz-Mat 1 and Wildland 1 are all part of our fleet. This past Monday (October 19th), our department continued our Truck 1 training focusing on operations.

A ladder truck is much more than just a really tall ladder! Depending on its equipment and capabilities, it plays several critical roles during emergency operations:

🔥 Aerial Operations: Provides firefighters access to upper floors, rooftops, and other elevated areas.

🔥 Search & Rescue: Assists firefighters with reaching and rescuing occupants from elevated locations.

🔥 Ventilation: Provides access to roofs and elevated areas to support ventilation operations when conditions allow.

🔥 Fire Suppression: Can provide an elevated water stream to help control large or difficult fires.

🔥 Ground Ladder Operations: Carries additional ladders and specialized equipment to support firefighting and rescue operations.

Big thanks to Allen, Johnny & Gerald who led training!!

On October 12, we began a new series of training for sharpening our skills on one of the most important pieces of apparatus in the fire service — our Ladder Truck!

The focus of this training was on the proper setup, operation, and takedown of the aerial ladder, with special emphasis on safety, teamwork, and efficiency.

We want to give a big shout-out to Kevin, Allen, and Johnny for taking the time to lead this training and share their knowledge and experience with our members. Your dedication to teaching, mentoring, and strengthening the skills of our firefighters is greatly appreciated!

🌪️ WATCH vs. WARNING: The Wizard of Oz Weather Edition 🎩🌪️

Tornado WATCH = You spot Ms. Gulch riding her bike down the road, looking extra grumpy and stirring up a little wind. The conditions are right for trouble, but the tornado hasn’t touched down yet. 👀🚲

Tornado WARNING = Ms. Gulch transforms into the Wicked Witch, and the storm is here! It’s time to take cover—NOW as the winds roar and the house starts spinning! 🏠💨

Moral of the story? A watch means “stay alert,” and a warning means “it’s happening—find shelter, quick!”

🌪️ PGVFD wants you to be ready for any severe weather. Don’t wait for Ms. Gulch to turn into the Witch—act fast! 🚒⛈️

With that being said, there is a 🌪 TORNADO WATCH 🌪 for our area until 8 p.m. tonight. Be safe!

🔥🔋 FIRE PREVENTION WEEK: FOR TOOLS & RIDES, CHARGE OUTSIDE! 🔋🔥

From e-bikes and electric scooters to cordless power tools, larger lithium-ion batteries have become part of everyday life. Because these batteries store more energy, a failure can lead to a fire that grows very quickly.

PGVFD reminds you to make safe charging a priority:

⚡ Charge e-bikes, scooters, and power tools outside when possible.
🚪 Never charge a device where it blocks a doorway or exit.
🔥 Keep batteries and charging equipment away from anything that can burn.
🔌 Always use the manufacturer-approved charger for your device.
⚠️ Stop using a battery if it becomes unusually hot, swollen, damaged, or shows other signs of trouble.

Why does keeping exits clear matter? If a battery catches fire, you need a clear path to get yourself and your family outside quickly. Your escape route should never be your charging station.

This Fire Prevention Week, remember:

⚡🦸 CHARGE INTO FIRE SAFETY: SAFE CHARGING IS A SUPERPOWER!

🔥🔋 FIRE PREVENTION WEEK: FEELS HOT? STOP USING IT! 🔋🔥

We use lithium-ion batteries every day—in our phones, tablets, laptops, power tools, toys, and countless other devices. But do you know the warning signs that a battery may be in trouble?

⚠️ STOP using your device immediately if the battery:
• Smells strange
• Feels unusually warm or hot
• Makes popping or unusual noises
• Changes shape or color
• Begins to swell
• Produces smoke

🔥 A damaged lithium-ion battery can overheat and start a fire. If you notice any of these warning signs, stop using the device. If it is safe to do so, move it away from anything that can catch fire.

And remember—never ignore a battery that is swelling, overheating, or acting differently than normal.

This Fire Prevention Week, PGVFD reminds you that recognizing the warning signs and acting quickly can make all the difference.

🔥🔋 FIRE PREVENTION WEEK 2026 🔋🔥

CHEAP CHARGER? DON’T CHANCE IT!

PGVFD wants to remind everyone that something as simple as the charger you use can make a BIG difference in keeping your home and family safe.

📱 Use the cord and charger that came with your device or one approved by the manufacturer. Cheap, counterfeit, or incompatible chargers may not provide the correct amount of power to your device. Using the wrong charger can damage the battery, cause overheating, and increase the risk of fire.

⚡ Avoid off-brand or counterfeit chargers.
⚡ Never use damaged or frayed cords.
⚡ Replace chargers that become unusually hot.
⚡ Purchase replacement chargers from a trusted source.
⚡ When in doubt—don’t chance it!

This year’s Fire Prevention Week message reminds us:

🦸‍♂️🔋 “Charge into Fire Safety: Safe Charging Is a Superpower.”

A bargain charger isn't worth risking your home or your safety.

🔥🚒 FIRE PREVENTION WEEK STARTS TODAY! 🚒🔥

Fire Prevention Week is a time dedicated to educating our community about simple steps that can help prevent fires and keep our families safe.

This year’s Fire Prevention Week theme is:

🔋🔥 “Charge into Fire Safety: Safe Charging Is a Superpower” 🔥🔋

Lithium-ion batteries power many of the things we use every day—from phones and tablets to power tools, e-bikes, toys, and other rechargeable devices. When these batteries are damaged, improperly charged, or used with the wrong equipment, they can create a serious fire hazard.

Throughout Fire Prevention Week, PGVFD will be sharing safety information and reminders to help keep you and your family safe.

Remember:
🔋 Use the charging equipment designed for your device.
⚠️ Stop using batteries that show signs of damage, overheating, swelling, or unusual odors.
🚪 Never block an exit with charging devices or equipment.
🔥 Keep charging devices away from anything that can burn.
🏠 Make sure your home has working smoke alarms!

Fire prevention isn't just something we talk about one week a year—fire safety starts at home, and prevention can save lives.
