A safer Princeton is something we build together!

For National Pedestrian Safety Month, our Community Relations Bureau (CRB), along with our patrol officers, set up in front of Tiger Park with Princeton University Public Safety, Princeton University Transportation and Parking Services, Greater Mercer TMA, the Brain Injury Alliance of New Jersey and Sฤkrid Coffee Roasters. Community members stopped, met with the officers, shared their concerns, picked up Street Smart NJ materials, and together we educated members of the public on how to move through town safely.

Heads up, phones down, cross at the crosswalk. Drivers: stop means stop for pedestrians. Bicycles and scooters are not permitted on the sidewalks where the ordinance prohibits them, including Nassau Street, Palmer Square and Witherspoon Street. Walk your wheels downtown. You will find the full list of restricted sidewalks here: https://ecode360.com/36791085

That is community policing: residents, police and local partners on the same sidewalk, knowing each other by name. Thank you, we will see you at the next one.

๐Ÿšถ October is National Pedestrian Safety Month, and we are bringing it to Nassau Street.

Join the Princeton Police Department Community Relations Bureau on Thursday, October 22 from 12 to 2 PM on the sidewalk in front of Tiger Park, Nassau Street at Palmer Square. Stop by, meet your officers, and pick up Street Smart NJ materials with simple tips for walking and driving in town.

Heads up, phones down. Cross at the crosswalk. Drivers, New Jersey law requires you to stop and stay stopped for pedestrians in a marked crosswalk. Small habits on both sides of the curb are what keep our neighbors safe on Nassau Street.

We will be joined by Princeton University Department of Public Safety, Princeton University Transportation and Parking Services, Greater Mercer TMA, and the Brain Injury Alliance of New Jersey, with coffee support from Sฤkrid Coffee Roasters.

In recognition of School Violence Awareness Week, we highlight the regular collaboration between the Princeton Police Department and Princeton Public Schools to discuss school security procedures, emergency preparedness, traffic safety concerns, and other matters related to maintaining a safe educational environment.

These periodic meetings provide an important opportunity for both organizations to exchange information, review existing safety protocols, and coordinate initiatives aimed at protecting students, staff, and visitors.

This continued collaboration further strengthens an already exceptional working relationship between the police department and Princeton Public Schools, while reinforcing our shared commitment to maintaining a safe and secure learning environment for our school community.

PEDESTRIAN SAFETY MONTH: A FRIENDLY REMINDER!

As we continue to recognize October as National Pedestrian Safety Month, the Princeton Police Department is reminding everyone to do their part to keep our streets and sidewalks safe!

Last week, we shared some of our efforts to promote pedestrian and traffic safety in Princeton. Our officers have been out in the community conducting pedestrian safety details, engaging with pedestrians, cyclists, and motorists, and distributing NJ Street Smart educational materials.

And weโ€™re not done yet! Throughout October, our officers will continue these efforts, providing safety education and maintaining a visible presence in areas with heavy pedestrian and vehicle traffic. We also look forward to partnering with Greater Mercer TMA and Sakrid Coffee to bring additional pedestrian safety awareness to the community. Stay tuned for the date and time!

A few important reminders:

Pedestrians: Use crosswalks, obey pedestrian signals, and stay alert when crossing the street.

Drivers: Slow down, avoid distractions, and yield to pedestrians as required by law.

Cyclists: Follow traffic laws, stay alert, and share the road responsibly.

Pedestrian safety is a shared responsibility, and small changes in our everyday habits can help prevent crashes and save lives.

Keep an eye out for our officers throughout October! If you see us out in the community, stop by, say hello, and ask us a question.

๐Ÿ‘‰ Visit BeStreetSmartNJ.org for more pedestrian and traffic safety tips.

๐Ÿ… Princeton Police Department Celebrates Dual Accreditation!

At last night's Council Meeting, the Princeton Police Department was formally recognized for successfully achieving reaccreditation through the Law Enforcement Accreditation Program (LEAP) and initial accreditation of our Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP). The awards were presented by Harry Delgado, Accreditation Director for the New Jersey State Association of Chiefs of Police (NJSACOP).

These achievements reflect our department's unwavering commitment to best practices, accountability, professionalism, and the highest standards of public safety.

We extend our sincere appreciation to NJSACOP, Mayor and Council, our municipal partners, and the Princeton community for their continued support. Special recognition goes to our Accreditation Manager, Detective Sergeant Mike Strobel, for his tireless efforts, attention to detail, and dedication throughout both accreditation processes.

Most importantly, we thank every member of the Princeton Police Department for their hard work, dedication, and commitment to excellence each and every day. These accomplishments are a reflection of the collective efforts of our entire agency, and something we can all take tremendous pride in!

๐Ÿšฒ Thank you, Community Park School! ๐ŸŽ’

The Princeton Police Department Community Relations Bureau joined our partners Greater Mercer TMA for a morning of bike and pedestrian safety. Students spun the prize wheel ๐ŸŽก, played safety games, and showed us just how much they already know about riding and walking safely. ๐Ÿ‘

A few reminders from the day that are worth repeating at home:
โ›‘๏ธ Wear a helmet on every ride, and buckle it.
๐Ÿ‘€ Stop, look left, right, and left again before crossing.
๐Ÿšฆ Cross at crosswalks and follow the signals.
๐Ÿ”ฆ Be seen: bright colors by day, lights and reflectors at night.

๐Ÿ’™ Thank you to the students, staff, and families of Community Park School for the warm welcome, and to Greater Mercer TMA ๐ŸŒฟ for helping make our streets safer for our youngest residents.

Members of the Community Relations Bureau, Officer Martinez and Officer Stoupas were recently invited to Riverside Elementary School to read โ€œPepe and the Parade: A Celebration of Hispanic Heritageโ€ in honor of Hispanic Heritage Month! ๐Ÿ“š๐ŸŽ‰

The kids were an enthusiastic audienceโ€”especially excited to share a few Spanish words with us! Their energy, smiles, and curiosity made the visit fun.

ยกGracias, Riverside Elementary School, for letting us celebrate culture, language, and the joy of learning together.๐ŸŒŽ Nos vemos pronto!
