💜 October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM 2026). 💜
This month, we stand with survivors and work to raise awareness about the devastating impact of domestic violence. Healing takes time, support, and compassion, and each of us can play a role.
Here are 4 ways to support survivors:
1️⃣ Educate Yourself & Others
Learn about the many forms of abuse, including physical, emotional, sexual, financial, and technology-facilitated abuse. Share what you learn and help create greater understanding and empathy.
2️⃣ Listen Without Judgment
Give survivors a safe space to be heard. Believe them, validate their feelings, avoid blame, and respect their choices. When appropriate, help them develop a safety plan and connect with resources.
3️⃣ Encourage Professional Support
Healing from trauma can be difficult. Encourage survivors to seek support from counselors, therapists, support groups, and organizations specializing in domestic violence and trauma. Offer to help find resources or accompany them if they want support.
4️⃣ Raise Awareness & Advocate for Change
Participate in local events, support shelters and victim services, share educational resources, join awareness campaigns, and advocate for funding and policies that protect survivors.
💜 Supporting survivors isn’t just for October; it’s something we can do every day. Together, by listening, learning, speaking up, and taking action, we can help create a safer and more supportive community for everyone.
