UPDATE: local community reporter Jose Julian Avila met with Enrique, the Guatemalan father ICE wrongfully tried to detain while he held his two young children, after agents chased him and damaged his car.

Enrique speaks out about challenging ICE agents over their lack of a warrant and their refusal to even identify the person they were supposedly looking for. The community has rallied in solidarity with Enrique, and a local mechanic has offered to help repair the vehicle ICE agents caused him to crash. Many community members have already chipped in to support Enrique and his family. More details about how to support Enrique will be shared if a public call for assistance is organized!

Rhode Island Energy shut off power and gas for over 5,000 households every month this summer. They’ve canceled payment plans, hiked rates, and had the gall to ask for higher profits from the Public Utilities Commission.

But the problem of energy costs goes far beyond RI Energy. The government, oil industry, and capitalist system all play a part in setting working people up to freeze while the rich get richer.

To immediately end the energy crisis, we demand:

1. Stop the shutoffs – cancel energy debt to give the people a clean slate!
2. Return rates to pre-winter levels – make the corporations pay for the higher costs!
3. End our reliance on natural gas – green transition now!

The people can win all these things right now. But to end shutoffs once and for all, and make utilities a guaranteed right — not a source of profit — we need to fight to end capitalism and win a socialist system!

BREAKING: This morning, around 8AM, ICE chased a man through Providence, running his car into the curb on Cumerford St. and breaking the front wheel and headlight. The man had his two young children in the back seat.

Neighbors came out to film and protest as ICE attempted to rip the man’s children from his arms, before realizing he was not the person they had been looking for and letting him go.

We won’t let ICE keep terrorizing our families and neighbors!

It’s finally here 🎊 tomorrow is the Grand Opening of the Providence Liberation Center, and our community has been hard at work spreading the word and creating the decor to open our new working class community center.

Join us Saturday October 17th from 2-6PM at 1053 Broad St! The grand opening is set to be a block party with performances, food from over a dozen restaurants and community chefs, kids activities, and more.
