We interrupt your program reminders to celebrate this glimpse of one of the female coyotes caught by Annalisa when she was doing closing rounds.

Come celebrate her home this weekend, full of programs designed to get you in the NBG spirit!

Rhode Island (and especially Providence) has always been a hub for creatives of all kinds. Take a look at some of the most notable artists and musicians memorialized here at North Burial Ground, and come out to the Mausoleum Hill Sessions on October 18th to enjoy an evening full of Providence’s contemporary art and music.

Tickets are $20 in advance/$25 at the door, and the link to purchase is on our website and in our bio! Some of these folks will be featured on the Mausoleum Hill Sessions Tour.

Thanks to new intern, River for this post!

There's so much coming up at NBG in the next few weeks that you're just going to get a ton of posts from us!

You've seen announcements of each of these programs before, and may have thought to yourself, "Wow, that's a lot going on for the 25th of October" and you would have thought correctly. We're taking all of our October 25th activities and wrapping them up into Fall's Farewell-a celebration of all the types of programming you can find at North Burial Ground.

Start your afternoon with us at 1:30 pm, for Paths to Spring where we'll be planting spring blooming bulbs along two historic pathways, now covered in turf grass and otherwise unmarked in the colonial section. We'll also be rejuvenating the mulch pathways around the Randall Park pollinator garden! No experience or tools required, though if you like using gardening gloves, bring your own.

Take a break from your plant tending to participate in the international Talk Death Cemetery Scavenger Hunt! The clues for the scavenger hunt drop at 2:30 and the race to find and photograph each clue will before the hour is up. You might win the Talk Death Prizes, but your chances of winning an NBG prize are pretty high!

Finally, finish up your evening with our final installment of Four People, Two Stories, One Nation (rescheduled from the Nor'easter day). See a live theatrical performance exploring the love story of Freelove Fenner Jenckes and her husband, Captain Sylvanus Jenckes-two young revolutionaries whose courtship and marriage was set against the backdrop of their activity in the Sons and Daughters of Liberty. Featuring Michael Brahce as Sylvanus Jenckes and Kelly Robertson as Freelove Fenner Jenckes.

Meet at the Rochambeau Gate for each of these programs-hang out with us for the whole day or come just for a program or two-we'd love to see you and celebrate the end of our favorite season!

We also have iron-on patches! This one features glow-in-the-dark green embroidery and the epitaph found on the grave of Abigail Wood, who died in 1812. Her epitaph is taken from a hymn written by Anne Steele, an English Baptist preacher and composer. It reads “Let this brave world engage no more, behold the gaping tomb! It bids us seize the present hour, tomorrow death may come”

Dolly Parton isn’t buried at NBG-but the people who love Dolly know she loved a historic cemetery. She’s often quoted as saying “the dead don’t scare me though, it’s the living that’s got me frightened.” In that same interview Dolly also shared this thought, “I imagine lives for all the people buried behind the stones”-summing up how so many of us are inspired by historic cemeteries.

We are so excited to share some new North Burial Ground merchandise that will be available this fall! These enamel pins are $8 each or get all four for $25!

You can pick up these pins at Mausoleum Hill Sessions, Grave Visitations, Fall’s Farewell or at our office!

This Charlie pin celebrates NBG’s official-unofficial faunal mascot, Charlie the coyote!

Our new logo is set with our motto-Remember, Comfort, Preserve-the actions that guide everything we do at NBG!

The Death’s Head, the Winged Skull are hugely important symbols in our colonial cemetery.

Edward Bannister-artist, founder, and philanthropist is featured on this year’s Notable Interment pin. Stay tuned for more Bannister related programming in November as we celebrate and install the new memorial on his lot!

GRAVE VISITATIONS is October 24 at 5, 5:30, 6, and 6:30 PM!

Our annual "ghost tour" is now Grave Visitations! You'll be visited by the "spirits" of North Burial Ground's Revolutionary War history-all called from beyond the veil by NBG's favorite spiritualist, Sarah Helen Whitman. Start your evening with Sarah, and then take a journey through 18th century Providence, and discover the lives of the people who lived the Revolution. Brought to life by amazing local actors and directed by Fran Leazes of Elmcrest Films!

This year, the 5:00 and 6:30 PM tours are free, with an optional donation. There is no need to reserve those 5:00 or 6:30 PM slots-just arrive before the tour departs and join the group.

The 5:30 and 6:00 PM tours are $15 and require a ticket, but we're limiting those tours a maximum group of 25 people for an ideal viewing experience. You'll also get a small NBG surprise package to celebrate the season. Tickets can be purchased via our website, or through the link in our bio!

Saturday, October 17, 2-4 PM

Meet at the Rochambeau Gate, (where Rochambeau and North Main Street meet, just by the R1 bus stop). There's no experience necessary, and no need to bring any supplies. Just dress for the weather in clothes you don't mind getting a little messy.

This will be our final headstone cleaning workshop of the season, so please come out to give a little last TLC to our historic sections. Maintaining a site like NBG requires community care, and all the work this season goes a long way to show how much NBG matters to Providence!

You can make a big NBG weekend of it, and join us for the Mausoleum Hill Sessions on Sunday!
