To ramp up for Rhode Island’s Design Week in September DESIGNxRI organized a “clambake” meet-up/networking/learning session in 195 District Park featuring Park Director Jacob Nathan, Buena Gráfica Studio - the graphic designers behind the park’s wayfinding/signage, and local artist Lumuku who designed the character cutouts in the park.

The meet-up consisted of a walking and talking session with the artists explaining their creation process and answering questions around their park projects. This event showcases the creativity of local organizations coming together in the 195 District creating the sense of community where people can teach and learn from each other.

Yesterday, we celebrated the completion of Tandem, the second phase of the development of Parcel 9 in the 195 District. Together, Tempo and Tandem create a 127-unit mixed-use, mixed-income community adjacent to historic Fox Point.

With Tandem’s completion, the District has now delivered 11 projects and 530 new housing units — important milestones in our work to transform former highway land into a vibrant, connected neighborhood and a driver of economic development.

Tandem demonstrates what strong partnerships can accomplish: creating new housing, attracting private investment and contributing to the continued growth of Providence. We’re excited to welcome Tandem’s new residents to the District and grateful to Governor Dan McKee, Mayor Brett Smiley, Pennrose Companies and all of the partners who helped bring this project to life.
