🚫 Tonight, the City Council took an important first step to ban the use of automated license plate readers across Providence. Councilors Sue AnderBois, Miguel Sanchez, and Rachel Miller introduced an ordinance banning the use of this technology. Sponsors argue that not only do ALPRs not make us safer, but they endanger our neighbors when sensitive data is misused by bad actors like Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

💰 To support the local economy, councilors passed a resolution encouraging the City to deposit funds in community banks. Participating banks will offer savings accounts with higher interest rates exclusively to Providence residents.

🚶 Councilors also granted first passage to an ordinance making crosswalks safer by prohibiting cars from parking, stopping, or standing within 20 feet of marked crosswalks to enhance pedestrian visibility.

⚾ Councilors unanimously passed a resolution honoring the Providence Grays. The baseball team’s legacy and historic achievements will be celebrated at an upcoming plaque installation and ceremony.
