Under Utah Legislation SB 127 every emergency department in every Utah Hospital, is required to have a PECC.
What is a PECC? Swipe to slide 2!
Why this impacts us? Our department has a working PECC. Only a handful of Utah EMS agencies DO NOT have a designated PECC.
What do they do? In addition to the slide above, attend monthly training, quarterly state meetings, and a yearly workshop.
As you will see in the statistics slide… agencies with a PECC are 5x more likely to improve their department performance specifically in pediatric care.
One of the main focuses of this years workshop, were behavioral challenges in treating behavioral issues and mental health in our peds population.
🚑FUN FACT UTAH is Number 1 in the nation for pediatric care!
So why do we have this? There’s always room to improve. And children are particularly important and particularly vulnerable in certain situations.
With the hospitals having to have one in the ER setting by law… They have implemented and begun to create certification programs for EMS from the state-citing PEDIATRIC READY (90% of the requirements in effect) or PEDIATRIC READY ADVANCED (80-90% of the requirements in effect) number one in both certifications having a PECC ✔️ 👍🏻 now North Fork is ALWAYS pediatric ready… these are just trickling down from ER’s to first responders to continually improve.
The yearly workshop we attend provides education, knowledgeable pediatric practices put into action at the State EMS level, an opportunity to be a part of improving that action with feedback, (as it’s always being implemented) and most importantly NETWORKING with our fellow EMS, and Nurses in the emergency departments we transport to.
North Fork is on track for state certification in the next few years (as it’s developed) and plan to continue to work to be
PEDIATRIC READY!!
