Should we be concerned about Hurricane Isaias affecting Pulaski Co.? Just because the spaghetti models show a potential path across the Commonwealth, can it really do any damage?
Something that neither the state nor the county is proficient at is tracking historical events and statistics. “Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.” – George Santayana. Another way to put it: if we keep doing what we're doing, we'll keep getting what we're getting.
The first map is the predicted path of Isaias. The second map was the path of Hurricane Ike, Sept. 14-15, 2008. With Ike, Public Assistance was requested and approved across 36 Kentucky counties, with Hazard Mitigation assistance made available for the entire Commonwealth. There is no record of FEMA providing Individual Assistance (funds to pay for personal damages). Damages were considerable. Hurricane Ike - CAT 2. Hurricane Isaias - Cat 2-3.
Yes, the remnants of Hurricane Isaias can affect Pulaski Co. and all of the Commonwealth. Let's not stick our heads in the sand and hope it doesn't happen.
Make preparations as much as you can. Secure personal items and prepare for possible power outages. Flooding is a real possibility.
Preparation is always the key, and it is our individual responsibility to take care of ourselves and our neighbors.
Be safe. Have a plan.
