Did you know your vehicle counts as heavy machinery?

Before getting behind the wheel, avoid taking medicines that may cause drowsiness as a side effect. Always check the label on any medicines you take or consult with your doctor or pharmacist.

Even prescription medications can impair your ability to drive safely.

Reduced speeds in school zones are put in place for the safety of children. Slowing down “a little” is not enough when it comes to school zones. If a driver is going over the speed limit during active times, that means they are breaking the law and putting students in harm’s way. Every good driver knows that pedestrians have the right-of-way. Always yield to pedestrians anywhere in a crosswalk, and never try to pass vehicles stopped at a crosswalk. When approaching a crosswalk, assume there could be someone crossing where you can’t see and approach with caution.

October is Pedestrian Safety Month, and the Tennessee Highway Safety Office is reminding both drivers and pedestrians to share the road responsibly:

Drivers: Stay alert, put down distractions, and always yield to people in crosswalks.

Pedestrians: Use sidewalks and marked crosswalks whenever available, make eye contact with drivers, and make sure you and your children are visible as it gets dark earlier.

Stay safe this Fall!

"🎃👻 Halloween is almost here! We want to know—what are you and your little ones dressing up as this year? Share your costumes in the comments!

While you’re planning your spooky look, don’t forget: if your street has limited lighting, make sure to include reflective elements in your costume or carry a flashlight to stay visible. Safety never goes out of style! ✨
