LCSO has recently put Sergeant Brett McRaney in charge of training for the department. Sergeant McRaney brings a lot of experience to that position. He is also the Commander of our SRT teams. Since his appointment he has developed innovative, and challenging training scenarios that all of our deputies are required to attend. Recently, he was asked to be a Range Officer in Garretsville Ohio for “Tactical Games” on September 12th and 13th. This is a competition attended by officers nationwide. All of his expenses were paid by “Tactical Games”. This is a reflection to his professionalism. It is also shows that the LCSO is on the forefront of the best training, both locally and nationally. Congratulations Sergeant McRaney and keep up the good work.

On Monday, a call for service lead deputies and investigators with LCSO to an address on the 2200 block Old Hwy 24 in Oak Grove. A 14 year-old female had come to their door asking for help. The female disclosed the name of the person she was involved with and described where she was living. They located the individual and found that he was wanted out of Florida for probation violation. The individual was determined to be a registered s*x offender in Mississippi. His name is Jonathan Hans Thronson, 49 years of age and resides on Old Hwy 24. Investigators learned that Thronson met a 14-year-old white female from Indiana in an online chat room. Their communications lead to Thronson traveling to Indiana and bringing the victim back to Mississippi. She was listed as a runaway from Indiana on August 7. She was recovered on September 18. Thronson was charged with statutory r**e and the grooming of a child. Bond was set by Justice Court Judge, Bill Anderson at $1 million per charge. He is being housed at the Lamar County Jail. The 14 year-old is in the custody of child protective services until she can be rejoined with her parents. This is an ongoing investigation and further charges could be pending. A hold for probation violation was put on him by the state of Florida.

We want to take a moment to thank Jackson Military Road Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution of Purvis once again for their partnership in supporting our Lamar County schools and our students. Their help allowed us to purchase certain items requested by some of the staff members specific to their needs.

Sumrall Elementary School received enough paper towels, Kleenex and disinfectant for each classroom. We hope everyone has a great and safe school year!

Special thanks to Chief Deputy Mike Purvis and Lt. Jason Mcnelly for delivering supplies.

Congratulations to Brandon Hodges and Austin Jones on graduation today from the Mississippi Law Enforcement Officer’s Training Academy ( MLEOTA) in Pearl, Mississippi. They are our newest Officers, who will be assigned to the patrol division. Both Officers started their law enforcement career working as Correctional Officers in our jail. When they finish the Field Training Program, riding with senior Deputies, they will bring our patrol division up to full force. Good job guys and welcome to the LCSO family. Always chase your dreams and be careful out there.
