Let's talk about Automated License Plate Readers (ALPRs).

You've likely seen ALPR cameras around Puyallup or heard conversations about how law enforcement uses this technology. We know there are questions about what these cameras collect, how the information is used, and what safeguards are in place.

We invite you to join us for a community information session where we'll explain how ALPR technology works, how it's used by the Puyallup Police Department, and the laws and policies governing its use.

We'll share information, address common questions, and provide an opportunity for community members to learn more.

🚔 Street of the Week: River Road [from 11th St NW to the City Limits] 🚗

Traffic Safety Fact of the Week!

FACT: The posted speed limit isn't always the safest speed.

Rain, darkness, wet pavement, congestion, construction, parked vehicles, and other conditions can make a road more challenging to navigate. Drivers should adjust their speed and driving behavior to match the conditions around them.

Driving at a safe speed for the conditions helps you maintain control and gives you more time to respond to unexpected hazards.

Drive for the conditions. Stay in control.

If speeding is a concern in your neighborhood, learn more about the City of Puyallup's Neighborhood Traffic Calming Program and how to apply:

STREET OF THE WEEK: THE RECAP!

Over the past three months, your PPD officers have been hitting the streets for our Street of the Week traffic-safety initiative.

The goal has been simple: encourage safer driving, address traffic concerns, and remind everyone that slowing down and paying attention can make a big difference.

Here’s what we accomplished over 164 hours of focused traffic enforcement:

🚔445 traffic stops
⚠️242 warnings
📝179 infractions
🚨11 arrests

For every street of the week, our officers worked to address unsafe driving behaviors and help make our roadways safer for everyone.

Thank you, Puyallup, for doing your part. Whether you’re driving through your neighborhood or across town, remember:

-Put the phone down.
-Slow down.
-Stay alert.
-Follow the rules of the road.
-Look out for one another.

Safe streets start with all of us. Let’s keep it going, Puyallup!

We will be out at the range training today from Noon-5pm. Thank you for your patience.

Today and every day, we invite you to stand with us at PPD in taking a stand against bullying.

Bullying comes in many forms. Whether it’s verbal, physical, relational, or cyberbullying, the results are detrimental. If you see bullying, speak up and report it.

No one should have to be a victim of bullying. Let’s work together to create a community where everyone feels safe, respected, and supported.

Please join us in giving Officer Sweem and Recruit Sprague a warm PPD welcome!

Officer Sweem joins us as a lateral officer from the Redding Police Department in California. We’re excited to welcome his experience and dedication to the PPD family!

You may also recognize Recruit Sprague, who previously served as one of our Corrections Officers at the Puyallup Jail. Later this month, he’ll begin the Basic Law Enforcement Academy as he takes the next step in his law enforcement career.

We are incredibly fortunate to have both of these great officers join Team PPD!

Please help us welcome them and congratulate them on this exciting new chapter. Welcome aboard, Officer Sweem and Recruit Sprague!
