Puyallup Historical Hatchery Foundation Original group of local citizens that came together to create a non-profit to help save the hatchery

Only 14 blocks from the Washington State Fair, the Puyallup Fish Hatchery operates today, as it has since 1949, nestled on 80 acres of beautiful natural habitat. In 2012 the Puyallup Hatchery was given new life when citizens came forward at a time it was about to be lost, got involved and created the Puyallup Historical Hatchery Foundation. This unique hatchery is now the 2nd hatchery to ever be placed on the Historic Registry in Washington State. Open daily to the public from 8am to dusk, visitors are able to see the various stages of trout and salmon development in the “nursery” and enjoy the trails behind the hatchery, past the Heron rookery and over Clark's Creek, up through deep canopied woods. The Educational Center, next to the hatchery, is open Saturday’s 10am to 2pm. The Puyallup Historical Hatchery Foundation, with a mission to promote watershed stewardship through education, offers guided tours on request.

This lively group got to witness seeing one of the first salmon arriving back to Clarks Creek! (sadly, we missed getting a picture of it!) They squealed watchin the splish splashing in the water! This still did not beat feeding the rainbow trout however!

Members of Alpha Tau, DKG (Delta Kappa Gamma) enjoyed a Puyallup Historical Hatchery Foundation presentation at their meeting Saturday morning. Joined by volunteer Bill Keilman, Patty spoke about the history of our Puyallup Fish Hatchery, the Foundations creation in 2012 in partnership with WDFW and the wonderful educational programs we provide, including 4th grade STEM for all PSD 4th graders each fall. Big THANKYOU to these retired teachers. Added up, 376 years of teaching was represented from this group!
Happy to report a few will be joining us teaching STEM classes this year at the Puyallup Fish Hatchery!
