Thank you Re-elect Tarra Simmons!
On the eve of Rosh Hashanah, Iโve been reflecting on the strength and leadership of my dear friend, mentor, and predecessor, Rep. Sherry Appleton.
Sherry was a strong, feisty woman who taught me so much about what it means to stand up for others, just as she always stood up for me. Iโm forever grateful that she believed in me and trusted me to carry on her values and leadership. At times, I wonder where she found such deep empathy and courage to continue the fight. Did her deep empathy come from the bias she faced as a Jewish woman? Did her strength come, in part, from the mezuzah she hung on her office door and later left behind for me?
On this Jewish New Year, I reaffirm my commitment, in honor of my mentor, to continuing Sherryโs work and standing up against antisemitism and hate in Washington State.
No matter who you are, you deserve to live with dignity and respect. There is no room for hate in Washington State.
Iโm thankful to Sherry for teaching me so much about life, love, and leadership. Happy Rosh Hashanah to all who celebrate. Shana Tova ๐๐ฏ
