This evening at 21:53 Fairview Fire and EMS units were dispatched to a report of a silo struck by lightning with an explosion in Oxford township.

Fairview Engine 95-3, Engine 95-4, and Squad 95-2 reaponded to the scene.

Engine 95-3 arrived on scene and found an oil well tank appeared to have been stuck by lightning and exploded causing damage to other tanks on site and a fire on the pad.

Engine 95-3 established command while Squad 95-2 set up a staging zone for incoming mutual aid departments.

No company employees were on site during the explosion and no injuries were reported.

After a scene size up command decided there was no serious risk to public safety or the environment, and decided to postpone any suppression efforts until company personnel arrived on scene to perform a full assessment of the pad site.

Our automatic aid partners began to arrive and set up in staging in preparation for a large scale suppression effort. Automatic Aid was received from Antrim, Old Washington, and Quaker City Fire Departments. Command also requested Barnesville Fire Department for a tanker and ladder truck.

Also assisting on scene were deputies from the Guernsey County Sheriff's Office, Troopers from the Ohio State Highway Patrol, and Guernsey County EMA Office.

As the scene progressed and company personnel arrived on scene and preformed a site shut down the fire quickly began to burn itself out.

The last small fires on the pad were extinguished by company personnel with no need for extended fire department operation.

In total 29 fire firefighters from Fairview, Antrim, Old Washington, Quaker City, and Barnesville reaponded to the scene.

All units cleared the scene at 00:16.

Given the potential risk involved in well pad and oil tank fires, we couldn't ask for a better outcome. No injuries, fire burned itself out within a couple hours, no serious environmental impact, vary smooth operations between agencies, and good communication with company personnel.

We would like to thank all who assisted in making this a smooth and quickly handled incident.

Today our department was invited by Barnesville Fire Department to participate in a thermal imager training. Class was taught by Insite Fire Trainings with several firefighters from Barnesville and Fairview in attendance.

Class focuses on the differences between various brands and styles.
Correct and incorrect uses of the equipment.
The tactical uses of the equipment in both search and rescue operations as well as fire suppression.
The limitations of the equipment.

After a PowerPoint presentation and classroom discussion crews were able to participate in a hands on exercise and see the equipment in action as well as test the capabilities of various brands and styles.

A wealth of knowledge was presented during class and the hands on really put the points of the classroom segment into focus.

We would like to thank Barnesville Fire department for the invite as well lunch during class.

We can't thank everyone enough for the tremendous support shown today at our annual chicken dinner.

This year we sold out in record time. All chicken dinners, bake sale items, and raffle tickets were sold out by 2:30.

This years dinner profit for the department was $5,256.

We would like to give a special thank you to the local Amish community for all the bake sale items donated for the dinner, Case Farms for the donation of chickens, Jones Jon's for the donation of a porta jon for the event, and Genesis Healthcare System for the donation of supplies for the dinner.

We would also like to thank members of the community who volunteered their time to help with the dinner as well as donate items.

Also we would like to apologize to everyone who did not get a dinner. We prepared the same number of dinners we do every year and did not expect the tremendous turnout we had. We will be dramatically increasing the number of dinners for next year. We would also like to apologize for the weather not cooperating with the corn hole tournament and we plan to keep the event for next year's dinner and are looking add events as well.

Finally we would like to thank our firefighters and EMS personnel for all the hard work and dedication they put in on a daily basis. They have worked tirelessly through the week to prepare for today's dinner while also responding to 13 emergency calls during the week.

Thank you all and we hope to see everyone at next year's chicken BBQ.
