The Commission on Government Forecasting and Accountability will hold hearings on the proposed closures of the Greene County Work Camp (Oct. 22 in White Hall at 1PM) and Clayton Work Camp (Oct. 22 in Camp Point at 6PM).

CGFA has also indicated that a final hearing will be held in Springfield during the first week of the fall Veto Session.

I have been critical of the Pritzker Administration’s ongoing trend of closing, downsizing or relocating state facilities away from communities in downstate Illinois. They argue that the impact extends beyond the facilities themselves, affecting state employees, their families, local economies and communities that have relied on those operations for decades.

Attention local fire departments and ambulance services!

The Office of the State Fire Marshal is now accepting applications for the FY2027 Small Equipment Grant Program. Eligible departments can apply for up to $50,000 to purchase small firefighting and ambulance equipment.

Several departments across the district have successfully secured funding through this program in recent years, and I encourage our local departments to take advantage of this opportunity.

It's See Tracks? Think Train! Week! Remember to always exercise caution and be alert when approaching train tracks.

This year’s week of recognition also comes as a new Illinois law puts a greater focus on rail safety. House Bill 3743, signed into law in July, requires K-12 student handbooks to include basic railroad safety information, including the importance of using designated crossings, obeying warning signs and signals, staying off tracks and watching for a second train.

Thank you to everyone who came out to our Shred Event in Jacksonville this morning! We had a great turnout, and it was wonderful seeing so many familiar faces. We look forward to doing it again.

I also want to send my very best wishes to Michaelene, who worked her final Senate event with us today. She has been such a wonderful part of our team, and we are going to miss her dearly. I’m so thankful for everything she has done for our office and the people we serve, and I know great things are ahead for her!
