Celebrate American Archives Month with the TCPL! 💾💽🎞📼📜📃📇🗃🗄📰🗞📚📖
The Archives and Special Collections at TCPL is committed to the collection and preservation of archival and ephemeral materials of or related to the rich history of the City of Quincy and its inhabitants, and the Thomas Crane Public Library system, and in providing access to patrons and researchers.
📂What is an archive?
Archives are permanently valuable records—such as letters, reports, accounts, minute books, manuscripts, and photographs—of people, organizations, and governments. They are documentary evidence of past events.
🗃️How are records stored?
To preserve material for future generations, records are typically stored in acid-free folders within acid-free boxes that are placed in dark spaces with consistent temperature and humidity. Some materials such as maps, cassette tapes, or objects may have different preservation needs.
🎞️What does an archivist do?
Archivists are the professionals who assess, collect, organize, preserve, and provide access to archival records.
🔎See what's inside the TCPL Archive at: archives.tcplquincy.org on ArchivesSpace. ArchivesSpace is an open-source archives collection management system for managing and providing access to archives, manuscripts, and more! You can search it in the library or at home to see what holdings the library has in the archives.
